You would put a hole in somebody for trying to run off with your DVD player?

I think it is pretty tough to find a bad load in .45ACP. However, I plan on doing some of my own personal testing. I will post results on here then.

Several different types out there that are reliable, but my recommendation is choose 2 or 3 quality brands, buy 150-200 rounds of each, and go to an outdoor range and run your own ballistic tests. Take jugs of water, wet phonebooks, old heavy clothing, wood, ect. Test each type the same, then make your decision. But probably the most important factor, don't run a mag or two of one type at the range and call it a day. You need to run AT LEAST 150 rounds of a particular type of SD ammo, before you can comfortably call it 'Your Self Defense Ammo'. Make sure your weapon enjoys eating it, and there are no feeding issues, inconsistencies, ect, ect. After you do all that, then you can wisely choose your poison.

Sorry poor choice of words simply meant i would not go out and shoot 200 rounds of this ammo weekly i will test these suggetions then shoot it time to time, just to be comfortable with it

... Once again, any of the modern JHP ammo will suffice.
Enough said.

You just opened a can of worms.
Here's my 2 cents.
The loads most commonly revered are:
Federal HST
Speer Gold Dot
Other loads commonly loved are:
Winchester Ranger T
Corbon DPX
Remington Golden Saber
Personally, I carry 230gr. Speer Gold Dot, but am thinking about switching to HST, if I could ever find enough to test. It really doesn't matter. You're shooting a big bullet that will probably expand with any of these. Hair splitting 0.5 inches of penetration versus .06 inches of expansion is silly.
By the way, if you have feed issues with wide mouth hollow points, Golden Sabers may work well for you because of their round profile and small mouth.

I carry 200gr +P Gold dots right now. I'm a big fan of any weight TAPs or XTPs (same bullet) they have fad and fired great through my 1911. I tried a box of 185gr +p Golden Sabres when i was on my light for caliber kick. They were reliable but the muzzle flash was excessive and the jacket liked to detatch from the core pretty often.
The XTP really impressed me as a controlled expansion bullet. It never "lost it's cool" through any medium. Always expanded, always penetrated, very consistant. I carry these in .357 sig, 124 and 147 grain. I also load 240 grain XTPs in .44 mag. You can never go wrong with these.
I carry the Gold Dots now in the 1911 because they feed and shoot well. They are bonded and loaded nice and spicey.
