Own Glock and Beretta... what should my first 1911 be?

I am getting the bug to buy a 1911. I have 3 Glocks (19,26,27) and a Beretta P96.
I don't know what 1911 to get. I'm considering a Sig.
I'd like to spend $1000 or so. I am not wanting one enough to go really high end in price.

Suggestions? Does Sig make a good one?

Been reading about Dan Wesson after the suggestion above. (Thanks bac1023)

It seems like it is a very fine gun. Now if I can just find a place to rent, but likely, I'll just buy knowing I'll like it, and worst case, it should be easy to sell for what I paid for it (nearly).

I totally agree, both are very good guns. Sig makes a decent 1911'ish too.

Sigs 1911s are pretty damn sweet. But I guess it depends on what you want in a 1911. One reason i like 1911 is because they are a piece of American history (insert Team America sound track here) so the Sig would be out for me personally if I had to chose just one. A grand is a pretty generous budget you could get a loaded Springfield or reasonable Kimber for that price.

I would suggest which ever model you buy to get one with between a 4 and 5 inch barrel.

you havent really defined your criteria enough to make a real recommendation. what features do you want? finish? looks? beaver tail? extended this and that? new, used? range gun, carry gun?

i dont think you can go wrong with DW. my one and only 1911 is a Colt series 80 made during the not so great years of Colt, but i guess i lucked out and got a good one. there are so many makes and sizes and levels of fit and finish its really tough to narrow it down with such a vague request.

I'm sorry for it being vague. It's vague because I really don't know yet since I'm so new to it. I don't know what 'features' 1911's have, etc. My use would likely be range mostly, but maybe carry if I get comfortable with it. It's hard to imagine not carrying my Glocks and replacing them with anything else though.

This thread has given me what I need to begin my research and I'm sure I'll have specifics after I read about and then try out different options.

As the owner of a safe queen Colt 1911, I suggest buying a G30.

Colt S70 or DW, depends on how you are about classic lines and name vs features. There are lots of other choices, but if you want a Colt nothing else will do and if you want a real good 1911 to start with, (but don't care much about the name) and want some of the more popular features, DW is pretty good and very good for the price.

I have had, owned high end 1911's...

Best is a RIA Rock Island Armory. They work all the time.

I would get a Glock 38 or a 37.

It works all the time and small and light you will carry it al the time.
