someday this will be mine!!!
I went to Yuma for Christmas and took a couple of pics of my dad's 1911. He originally bought it for $25.00 from a an who carried it on a B-17 during WWII. When my dad got it, he said that he didn't think it had any rounds thru it. My dad was a pilot in the Air Force and when he was stationed in Japan he had it engraved. I think it's a beautiful sight to behold. The only thing he's had replaced was the barrel & bushing in the late 50's. I didn't get to shoot it, but from what he says it's very accurate.

Very handsome. You could get work like that done very reasonably by our recently defeated enemies who are now our friends.
There are no doubt Internet Experts on some of the boards who would mourn the loss of a genuine army surplus pistol to the engraver... but I am not one of them.

Thanks Jim, I am one who appreciates a work of art. I think this can be called one. This gun is engraved on the base plate of the mag, trigger guard, just about everywhere. The relief on the engraving is unbelievable. The colt is done in real silver. My dad said he paid about $30 for the entire job, that's amazing that all that work cost so little back then. Just think how much you'd have to pay now to get the same quality.

That is a wonderful looking piece, with all the engraving and history an old gun could have. I would cherish that gun always and pass it down further generations

Thanks I appreciate the kind words.
That's exactly what I plan on doing is passing it down the generations. My dad said "when you get this don't sell it. I just told him "are you kidding me? this is an heirloom there is no way it will leave our family on my watch". I will pass this gem on.

When you get it put some nice wood on it to complete the package.

I'm not real big on engraved 1911s but that is very sharp. Only thing is, that jeweled hammer has got to go.

I'm not sure what you mean by jeweled. The sides of the hammer were done like the nose of the the "spirit of St, Louis" plane. Is that what is referred to as jeweled?

Not a big fan of engraving either but that is really nice. I think a real nice set of ivory grips would look great. (Or imitation ivory.)  Then put it away or in a nice display case. Beautiful heirloom.

I have seem a lot of engraved 1911s over the years and that is by far the best ive ever seen.your dad has good taste, NEAT BUT NOT GAUDY.....IMHO

Yea, the guy who did the engraving was truly gifted. I would not have thought to engrave the base plate.
