Sig P220 Ammo

I may be getting a Sig P220 (45 ACP) soon. I do not know much about ammo for this gun. How well, and what brands of 230 grain plus P ammo work in the P220?

I have a 220R SAO and so far I can say it will feed ,extract ,eject anything I have put into it. Not one single failure of any kind.

I've used several different brands of ammo through mine, and never had an issue with any of them.

If this 220 is an older folded slide model I wouldn't want to shoot a steady diet of Plus P in it. Plus P in any auto pistol can cause problems with the timing of the pistol by the slide cycling to fast and not feeding the next round in the magazine if the magazine springs are weak.

My 220 has well over 10,000 rounds through it and it has been flawless. For practice and training, most of the time I have used regular pressure ammo. With that said, I have shot a fair amount of +P ammo with it and have never had a problem.

I think it is fair to say that the 220 is an incredibly durable pistol and will not have problems with +p ammo use.

I'm jealous. I've a Sig P220 for over a year and it's never made it out of the house. It's never seen daylight and I can't even tell you how it shoots (still clean though.)

Now I wish there wasn't any snow on the ground (maybe I'll have to bring a tarp with me to catch my brass and an umberella to shoot under while it's snowing.

Everyone says these P220 shoot great, I need to find out if mine does!

Anything should work out of a 220. I've had zero problems with mine. Like others said, I wouldn't feed it a steady diet of +P. There's really no need for the extra pressure in the .45 anyway.

Our duty loads have been the RangerT 230gr. and Federal HST 230gr +P in our P220R's. No problems with either one.

Around 93 they beefed up the 220 for +p. If it has the rounded hammer and the recoil spring has a splash of green paint on it then it is +p rated. Read this in an article by Chuck Taylor in Guns & Ammo or was it Combat Handguns.

hey screaming,

i just your exact same gun. i am completly new to SIG.

Now, my sig functioned fine with factory WWB.

Do you shoot reloads? if so, what is your load? I tried reloads (long story) but the gun ran horrible the first time out. This was a used gun but used by about 200 rounds or less.

You'll be fine with factory ammo. The front edge of the P220 magazine is a little narrower than some .45's though. This is really only an issue if you reload some of the heavier and wider hollow points; they require a little shorter OAL to get them in the mags. I reload the Hornady XTP 230gr. with a max OAL of 1.234", any longer won't fit in the mag.

Yeah. The 1.23 is what I use for all my loads 1911 ect so they chamber well in all my guns.

Now I just have to bump up my charge to run my sig, they were really light the last time I tried to fire them and they just wouldnt run right.
