Quick Daniel Defense Question

I'm looking at a DDXV rifle to get back into the AR stuff. The rear sight looks huge and appears to get in the way of an Aimpoint or Eotech down the road. Can the sight be removed, or at least folded down? According to their information it is a "fixed" rear sight..

doesn't fold down but it is removeable

Fivestar, I have one of these rifles and love it. The rear sight is mounted on the rail (removable as blaster said). They say fixed as it does not fold down out of the way.

An Aimpoint on a mount designed to co-witness in the lower 1/3 will work perfectly.

I'm running a LMT fixed rear buis and a Aimpoint ML3 in a LaRue Tactical LT-150 mount and the dot sits above both the front and rear sight.

Thanks for the information guys! Glad to hear that I can at least remove it, and then possibly replace it with something smaller.

I was originally looking a M&P15 O.R., but it looks as though I can get a DDXV for a few bucks more. I would assume that the DD would be the better route, correct?

I love my DDM4 much better than the M&P in my mind.

That will be a perfect gun for you. No need to "upgrade" anything on it. Just add accessories you think you might want. You will probably end up going full circle and putting the rifle back like it is new. People add all kinds of crazy things to their rifles and they wind up amazing 12 lb anchors that are supposed to do all this fancy stuff when all you really need is a lightweight, reliable, easy to use carbine. The DDXV is exactly that.

BTW, if you want to swap it for an ARMS 40, and pay the shipping, I will swap with you. The DD A1.5 is a KISS rear sight that I love.

The DD rifles are a really great deal. The devil is in the details with AR's and the DD's have the "right" details. What you really want (and get with DD, Colt, ad Noveske) is an MP tested bolt and barrel. With DD you also get a cold hammer forged, 4150 steel barrel second only to maybe a Noveske.

Does a M&P, Bushmaster, RRA etc bolt have "MP" on it? A lot of people will say the middle end makers' rifles are "just as good" as ________ or that they will "work for you average shooter". That's true but with a high end weapon going for $1200 or less why not just get one of those?

Smith M&P15 indeed have MPI bolts but not barrels.. perhaps the PC models?

I love my DDM4v2! I needed to change a few things.. I sold the VFG and replaced it with a Magpul AFG and the rear sight with a GG&G flip up and then added the grip panels for color. And I have big paws so the A2 prip was replace with a Miad kit.
