S&W 29-3 3" barrel
Quick question on a Smith 29-3. I have an opportunity to buy on for $600. It has with a 3" barrel, rounded wood grips (really beautiful) with the S&W emblem in silver. The revolver is in excellent shape and has a great trigger pull.
I have a 29-2 with the 6" barrel, but have no experience with the snubbie. Anyone ever shoot one of these with .44 special? Accuracy? Recoil? Speed?
Does anyone have any information on this revolver?

For the sake of discussion, I'm going to assume the 3" 29 has the same full lug barrel as my 3" 629-5....
I've run PMC 240gr and CCI 200gr .44sp ammo through mine.
Recoil is light, downright pleasant compared to any standard 240gr magnum load.
IIRC, my POI was low relative to POA using the 'Specials, the gun being sighted in for 240gr magnum loads.
Accuracy was good, but not as good as the magnum loads...I'm shooting offhand, though, so definite possibility *I* could have been a factor. Nonetheless, I can get groups under 2.5" consistently with full power ammo, whereas the aforementioned .44sp loads were around 3.5-4" at 25yrds.
It's really hard to quantify recovery without a timer, but fast DA is no problem with .44sp ammo loaded at the typical watered down factory load levels....figure the same as +P .38sp in a K frame.

Sounds like one of the Lou Horton specials.
Get it.
Have two of the 3" .41 mags from them.

I never saw a 29 with a full underlug.

Update. GOT IT! I picked up the pistol yesterday afternoon, and the ammo this morning. I got 100 rounds of Gold Dot Specials and 100 rounds of Gold Dot Magnums.
Maybe the rain will slack up enough to give her a whirl this afternoon!
