Rock island armory question.

I have heard many good comments on 1911 sites about the 1911 Rock Island Armory pistol.

Has anyone had any experience with this pistol GOOD OR BAD?

I've got an officers model. I carry it frequently. Its proven itself 100% reliable. I reload and shoot often, and its actually became a favorite range gun also. The GI sights suck, but thats not a RIA thing, thats any GI sighted 1911.

They are not fit like a top dollar gun, they are not finished like a top dollar gun. They are however a terrific bang for the buck. I would recommend one to anyone.

They are what they are...a cheap Filipino import with minimal fitting. For $200 more you can get a good Kimber, Colt, or Springfield and have double the quality.

I paid 375 NIB for an officers model. Where can I get a kimber for that (575)?

CS-Tactical they call it,its the officers frame with a 3.5 inch bull barrel.I like it but its an all steel frame which makes it about 34OZ empty, but very manageable. Thanks for the compliment.

I saw a RIA Tactical 2 tone today, I think I may pick it up, though I really hate that they put made in the Philippines under the dust cover

I don't care that its made in the Philippines, just that they put it under the dust cover, if they put it on the side like Springfield it wouldn't bother me so much, I just think under the dust cover and the crappy way they do it is lazy

Overthehillguy, go get it. I have the Officers, & the 5 in Tac model & they both have been great. They have proven to be very reliable with FMJs. They are not the BBQ guns that you hear about both they are solid. I carry the Officers model quite a bit. I work const & it makes a great truck gun.

The RIA are very nice 1911 pistols. In my area the local gun shop wanted $485 for a used 5" RIA 1911. I considered that just to much money for a standard type RIA 1911. Recently I found a virtually new Springfield 1911 Mil Spec in the same shop. It was priced at $400 plus tax. It went home with me for $400 along with a box of ammo. It has been absolutely outstanding in every respect... excellent fit and finish, nice trigger, perfect function with all ammo types, POI is POA, extremely good accuracy. It may be that a RIA would have given me just as good of results. But I could not find one at a good price and ordering one would, after FFL fees, etc., not have been cost effective. If you can find a RIA at a good price, buy it. But shop around. You may very well find a bargain waiting for you. Sincerely. Brucev.
