Custom work on Kimber Gold Match 2
My Grandfather is buying a Kimber Gold Match 2 (9mm). He wants to have a rail mount installed with optics. The reasoning for this is the red dot is alot easier for him to see than the target sights. Any ideas of good rails, and or optics? Also are there any shops that deal with custom 1911 work that we could have this done at?
Thank you

Slap one of those on the gun, and you wouldn't need to modify it.
As for a red dot, I don't know a lot about those. I just bought my first one myself, and it's only a cheap Tasco.

For how much I paid for it I've been quite happy with the OKO red dot I have on my AR. On their race guns STI offers them as a cheaper alternative to the C-more.

If it were me, I would get this mount:

and top if off with this sight:

From what I can see, no permanent mods to the gun would be required. Brownells has the sight, but I don't see that they carry that base.
I just think it's cool your grandpa wants to do something like this.

Thanks for the info everyone. Yea it is pretty cool that he is into this. He is the one that got me into shooting. He was a big time safari hunter, but now as he gets older he cant shoot those big bore rifles anymore.
But anyways, how does this sight work? Wouldnt the recoil throw it off? He was originally looking at the STI MatchMaster, but we get a discount through Kimber so we decided to go Kimber. I would assume the frame mounted sights must be more sturdy? LOL Im confused now.....
