Black stocks vs OD, Coyote, etc?
I upgraded my stocks but kept everything all black and I'm kind-of regreting not taking the opportunity to spice it up by going with OD or tan.
Curious what you guys think about colored stocks. Do you get bored of colors and end up going back to all black or do you still like your color choice. Pics of your AR's in different colored stocks would be nice bonus to this topic.
Thanks,
Seamster

Different colored stocks dress up an otherwise blah rifle but it is designed that way for a reason. What operational environment are you going in that you want OD or tan?
IMHO, the colored stocks are cool, but really serve little purpose unless you are going to paint your metal parts to match.

Going Dark Earth on my current AR project. Variety is the spice of life they say. It serves no practice purpose at all but that is OK with me.

Although I prefer black, I have gone to color on a few builds.

To me, just using a colored stock is not enough. It is essential to have your furniture (stock, handguards, rail covers, VFG, pistol grip, and mags) match.

Like camouflage, the different colors will disrupt its outline and make it harder for the human eye to recognize the shape of the gun. It may have a tactical advantage. But if there is one it is trumped by the coolness factor
I just recently got an AR10-T and it had OD green stock, forend and pistol grip. I replaced the stock with a Magpul PRS and waited an extra 3 weeks for it so I could have it in OD. It kinda kept with the theme of the gun.

FDE is my favorite, but I went with black because I wanted an ACS stock on my 16" midlength build. When Magpul offers it in FDE I'll likely switch it out. If they don't for a while, I'll just go FDE on my next build, either a pistol/SBR or an SPR.

I had a brief flirtation with OD furniture. Very brief. It didn't take me long to go back to black.

This here's the "Black Rifle" forum. It's for people who want to discuss black rifles. Not pink rifles. Not lime green rifles. Black rifles!!!!
What's wrong with you people????

I've seen some good work by stock and gun painters. That looks way more hardcore and hides the outline better than just having different colored furniture.

My rifle is basic black, but colored furniture is an easy way to break up the outline a bit and also differentiate rifles. If you've got 9 black rifles, finding the right one in a safe in a hurry can get interesting. If you know your long range gun is OD, your "hunting" gun is FDE and your business rifle is all black, seperating them can be easier.

I see some pics of both FDE and UDE rifles, any chance someone could take a pic with both in it (to remove exposure and lighting differences)? I'd like to see how much lighter UDE really is.

What operational area would all black work in? OD works in about every environment, same as FDE.

Here is green Magpul furniture on my Sabre Defence. The Tango Down vert grip is a shade lighter, but I can live with it.
