1911 Magazines
Fill me in. I have a Springfield TRP and A loaded model. I would like to buy some extra mags. A guy at work told me to get Wilson Combat because he believed them to be the best. Help me out guys. Any input? Lets put value or pricing aside. Just function here.

I don't really like Wilson Combat mags. The springs don't last long, they have an all plastic follower (that is notorious for not working with some Springfield guns by the way) and have thin walled mag tubes. I personally thing CMC power mags and Tripp cobra mags are the most reliable and durable 1911 magazines money can buy (for a serious use deffensive gun). Wilson's are fine for the range.
Go to 10-8 performance.com and look at the articles section for magazine recommendations. Hilton Yam's recommendations are based on real world hard use guns, not range guns. I have a few Wilson mags, but they are reserved for range use only. Many have no problems with their Wilson mags, and for a long time, they were some of the best on the market.

Wilson, Chip McCormick, Checkmate, Tripp; all good magazines.
Make up your own mind which you want to use after reading this and this.

The newest gen Tripp mags are great, as well as Certac mags. And the Wilson Elite mags are good also. All of these are truely designed 8 rd. .45 acp mags. I use the Wilson 47D's as range mags as do others.

I am a Tripp's 7 rounds only type of guy. For range use and comp, any type of mag I can find.

Never had problems with Wilson Combats 47D's and Chip McCormick power mags, so I stick with those.

Mec-gar and Metalform. I have several of each in 45 and 10mm. Use them extensively in matches. Always work flawlessly.

What about the +1 (8 round) magazines? Who makes good reliable +1 mags?
I've been using the Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags in stainless, without problems.

I have always had excellent results using the 45 ACP Novak/ActMag magazines. Never had a malfunction using the Novak/ActMag magazines.

my TRP and MilSpec both run great with the 47Ds. i have a few of several different brands and all have been reliable.
my only problem was with the milspec and its factory mags. i had 2 FTF in the first 75 rounds. nothing since so that is probably a break in issue.

the last 2 mags. I bought were certac8 's I've shot 300-400 rds. through those with no issues, in a 1911pd and a colt 1991A1.
