So I have a Romanian WASR-10. As with all other AK's of the type that I've seen, it has a blued bolt. I was just wondering what everyone thought about stripping the finish off of it, and leaving the bolt an unfinished grey color. Would it hurt to have the metal unfinished? I've taken the blued finish off of a few barrels before, but I re-blued them. I'm just not sure how the metal would fare without being re-blued. This is just purely for aesthetics, and not really a big deal at all. I really like the looks of the grey bolts, such as on a few of the Yugo M70's I've seen around here. What are your guy's thoughts?

Most of the "unfinished" AK bolt carriers are actually chromed. You'll need to keep it well oiled to prevent corrosion if you simply strip off the finish and leave it that way.

Oh I know, I had planned on that. I just now got finished with it, and it looks great. Currently, I'm at work, and I can't get pics up just yet. I work at a hardware store, and my dad is my boss. He lets me work on my gun projects at work when we aren't busy. :P

Get some brownelles spray on bake finish in grey.Its gravy to do,clean the metal,degrease,spray it on,bake in oven..done.


those blued bolts will rust without any kind of protection,I can guarantee it.My nephew did his on a buffer wheel,within a week,rust started forming on it.He started oiling it and it made more rust.
