Anyone know of a company or individual doing these? I mean...If the VC could do it in the 60s, surely someone can today

I've never heard of anyone doing this. The 7.62 is considerably longer than the .45/10mm. I don't think it can be done.

I don't think the OP was talking about making 7.62x39 or a 308 Win out of his 1911. The Chinese round is a 30 caliber pistol cartridge.

Seems to me that there was a guy that posted about making it. Took a 30 cal barrel and welded it on to a breach he specially reamed. Darned if I know were it was that I saw it.

I've seen a few of the Communist Chinese conversions that came in with the boatloads of Broomhandle Mausers in the 1980s. The obvious part of the conversion is the frontstrap filed out paper thin to make room for a 7.62x25 magazine. Prices were high enough that I did not buy one to study closely, but there had to be a lot of work in there to enlarge the magazine well and reduce the bolt face, extractor, and ejector. Not to mention making or sleeving a barrel and making a magazine. Crude work, but a lot of it.

You would think an enterprising American would have cut up a cheap Philippine or Chinese 1911 copy by now instead of just posting on the internet.

Years ago SARCO sold some 7.62 1911 barrels for conversion. A friend of mine had one. I think it would be a blast to play with. Nothing current that I know of.

The Browning Hi Power was available with the 30 Luger round. Seems like that would be a more feasable caliber for the 1911.

The VC conversions were 7.62x25mm Tokarev. If you read the Shotgun News article you will see just how much had to be done to make that work.

The .30 Luger (7.65x19) barrels have been fitted to 1911's. I don't know much about it, you start with a 9mm Luger 1911.

I am aware that the cartridge in question is the 7.62x25. I should have specified.
I know it is too long to fit in a normal 1911 because I was looking into a Glock 21 conversion. The 7.62x25 was too long to fit in a 21 mag.
