Remington Project Gun

Hey all, I am currently taking a Remington 870 Express, 12 gauge, and turning it into an HD/SHTF gun. My plan, that is already set in motion is to replace the 28" barrel with an 18" Remington replacement, a speedfeed pistol-grip and fixed synthetic stock, get the surefire pump-grip, and get the action tapped and have XS ghost ring sights installed. What I need to know is are there any other mods that I should embark upon? Dura-coat perhaps (Needs to blend in better here in the Arizona Desert)? and what defensive loads should I run through it? Thanks all.

Personally.....

I'd go with rifle sights or a bead over ghost rings. I'd also not put a pistol grip on the forearm (I'm guessing that's what you mean by surefire pump-grip).

DuraCoat is good stuff...do that to your heart's desire.

Mods....I don't like them. Keep the gun simple and fast.

Defensive ammo? I like Low Recoil 00 buck and Low Recoil slugs for general purpose work and Low Recoil #4 in the house. Others like the full power stuff.

YMMV, and likely will.

Ditto to what The Coyote said 'cept I use recoil reducing stocks so I still use the heavy loads. If I was running a conventional stock I would go with the low recoil stuff as I am old and my shoulder is older.

I like the way your thinking there I'm going with almost the same stuff on my second remington build now. accept I'm using standard rifle sites but other than that it will be a great shot gun.

As far as ammo I would look at federal flight control or hornaday TAP both in 00 buck, they hit hard and pattern well.
