The latest issues like that are the lancaster arms "Red" aK74 overgased builds, the Century Arms .223 bore for a .220 bullet 5.45 Ak74
builds, the Century Arms WASR magwell disalignments, and anything Hesse/Vulcan. Of course, there are still Bwest US receivered-Norinco
hybrids sold used that are improperly heat treated and occasionally an improperly heat treated factory Norinco bolt here and there. The Wasr's
can have really bad sight or gas block canting.

I couldn't begin to suggest dropping a name brand for a fully assembled pistol grip-high capacity ready product under $500 in today's market. The sub $500
retail market is quickly becoming a sub par quality level. If you settle for a WASR, my advice is to study and learn what you can easily spot as a problem
before you purchase one. These can be a gamble. Even the Romanian SAR's
which were much better overall, had really bad cant issues.

Sadly, the Draco might be the only unmolested import J&G sells in your price range. If I had to depend on a rifle sight unseen form your choices, I would skip the rifle choices and get the draco 7.62x39 pistol. By the way, there will not be any 5.45 Draco pistols anytime soon because of legalities associated with such a choice.

However, if your good with using a drill , tap, and a file and don't mind a
working on a rifle, a $300 saiga would definitely be a much better base gun
value and you can always customize it accordingly. Its the same base gun as
an Arsenal SGL but without the extra changes Arsenal does.
I love mine. Zero problems ever. If I could find an Arsenal SGL locally, I might
buy one of those too.

Buy Saiga($350) and convert it when further funds allow. I did this to a 5.45 this past Jan. well, I converted it the day I got it - no waiting for me.

I live local to jgsales and was in there earlier this week. The sales guy (who seemed honest and knowledgable) told me that all of the century AK's they have now are part of the new production where the problem of the wrong diameter barrel has been addressed.

I think he was honest because I asked about some used tantals they had on the side (not on the wall)...and he told me those were from before the barrel issue was addressed... so I may want to look the other way.

Never a truer statement! You will wind up with a Russian AK once you are done. I am afraid of any of the cheap AK's out there!

Either the Saiga or the Draco, great guns. Good luck!

Another vote for the Saiga. They are great quality AKs. I need to convert mine very soon.

$125 for 1080 rounds!

Plus shippin. Not bad for something as potent as .223.

I know, it makes me wish I hadn't bought my Yugo M70. Although, ammo is still available for both, but 7.62x39 is about $250 for 1k.
