What HP ammo does your 1911 like?

Hello all,
First of all I have a Springfield armory loaded parkerized 1911, and i Bought 2 boxes of winchester ranger T 230gr+P, and they cycle fine, i was wanting to try a box of federal HST 230gr+P, he also has some speer Gold Dot 230gr standard pressure. These are all 50rd boxes. I just hate to spend $33 per box and them not be reliable. The gold dots have such a big opening and it makes me wonder if they will jam or hang up in the feed ramp.

Remington Golden Saber 230 Grain, no problems in any 1911 I have owned and good stuff!!

I generally carry Golden Sabers.

Honesty, just because one round works for someone else doesn't mean it's right for you. As painful as it may be, you should buy them and find out the hard way.

With that said, I've had the most problems (4 different pistols) with the bonded HST 230gr+P. I may have gotten a bad batch but will not buy them again.

I have gone exclusively to 230gr Gold Dots, they feed well, are accurate, and have a low flash charge.

I have had poor luck with Golden Sabers, they may feed well but suck for accuracy and had a blinding white flash, YMMV.

My RIA will not feed the Speer Gold Dots, but runs just fine on Winchester SXT. I guess that will do.

I haven't found a hollowpoint yet that my 1911's won't feed, but YMMV...you really just have to buy some and try them. I've tried Federal hydroshocks, winchester silver tips and WWB 230gr HP's. All work just fine.

My Kimber TLE eats the 230g +P HST's and 230g Gold Dots without any problem, but as was stated, each gun is a little different. For complete confidence you need to shoot at least 50 rounds of whatever ammo you are going to carry, no matter what you read here. What works in one gun may not do so well in another, even the same brand and model.

When my agency allowed 1911s, I issued the Speer 230gr GDHP; no problems reported. We had folks carrying Kimber, Colt, SA, customs, even a Baer. Prior to that the 230gr Golden Saber was issued and a few guys/guns had issues.

I always found 1911s to be much more finicky, regardless of brand or mods, than other more recent pistols (SIG, Glock, et al). The DSpeer 230gr has a round-ish profile, unlike the TC profile of some other brands of JHP. In any caliber I find that (everything else held equal) the rounder the pill, the less likely the pistol will choke.

In .45acp I don't care for the 230gr pill personally, but the lighter the JHP the more flat/sharp noses I run into.

You aren't going to know if they are reliable until YOU try them. What works for me might not work for you at all.

Remington Golden Sabres have a nice feed reliable bullet profile, but as the above poster said, you have to test them. I like to shoot at least 200 rds of the ammo through the pistol before I would trust it.

I'm a Winchester T-Series kinda guy. They work in all of my guns and have a great reputation in real life, and are relatively inexpensive as SD ammo goes.

Haven't seen the need to try anything else.
