AK training video

Who makes a good AK training video?

I am thinking it might be worth while to see how a pro handles their AK.
Watch someone shoot and scoot.
It is not as good as being there for the real thing, but much better than dreaming about it.

I am NOT defending Gabe. He is what he is. I don't agree with all of the crap that he spews forth. That said he does make sense in regards to manipulating an AK.

He has not been there.
He pleaded guilty to a crime.
I had a run in with him on a forum. He thinks he is 100% right, and will not even listen to any other opinions.

Hasn't been where?

I want to make clear I'm not looking to pick a fight here. I'm just wondering what the deal is.

FWIW Sonny Puzikas, former Spetznaz (and "Deadliest Warrior" alum, heh) did an AK dvd, but I think it's out of print.

When they (the internet warriors of the world), talk about trainers, they usually want someone who has been there, done that. The there can be anything from years of military or police work, but they want someone who is known for having killed people, or at least been in the same spot where people were killed..

In his particular case, I think it has to deal with love of the AK, but having never used one outside of training.

Personally I don't care about the been there, if he has an open mind.
The open mind allows him to collect knowledge from everyone else who has been there.
A closed mind and having not been there is a bad combination.

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=82605

A former Santa Monica police officer has pleaded guilty to Workers Compensation fraud, money laundering and grand theft and will begin serving a year-long jail sentence for the crimes next week.

Gabriel Saurez, a decorated 12-year veteran of the SMPD, will report to Los Angeles County Jail to begin serving his sentence on Monday as part of a plea agreement reached last week in Los Angeles County Criminal Court.

One item alone, is not a big deal. All the items together.....I would rather go to someone else.

It's possible to take on false workmans comp thing and make several charges out of it.
I don't know him but like his news letters.
He preaches Glocks and AKs, my kind of guy.

Good question.

It has a tie in with work, but....
I don't see myself as Rambo.
I don't see myself in any formal competitions.
I would like to see how a professional does things.
I would like to handle my guns better.
I would like for be faster and more accurate.
I would like mag changes to be quicker.

I am not looking for a basic class, but I am also not at operator status either.

BTW, I bought the Magpul disks for pistol and AR15 carbine. Now I am looking for something specific for AK.

I understand your point.

If it was just one thing.....
Maybe he will grow on me....

But for now, I am looking for someone else.

You're looking to train, not find a date for the prom.

Right now, Gabe's at the top of the AK heap. Buy it used if you don't want to put money in his pocket. The techniques are sound, and he's stripped away a great deal of the training artificialities that float around. Add to this what he's learned in the former Warsaw Pact countries, where he's been hired to teach, and it really is a practical package.

From there, Puzikas. His "Beyond the Firearm" is just that. Out of production, it can still be had on the re-sale market. I don't know what BTF II is going to be, shipping was delayed.

Other stuff on the market is either their's, redone, or someone's attempt to make AR gun-handling fit into the AK.

I thought Gabe got his stuff from Sonny? Like him or not he does put out some good training. To me it dosent matter if he's been there and done that as long as he can teach you how to fight when your there, doing that.

I had an easier time finding prom dates.

I will wait.

Training vids are OK (I've got 15-20) but cannot compare to live training from a good trainer.

One thing I look at from a trainer is whether or not he is trying to sell me a boat load of stuff. If a trainer spends more time peddling vids, books and accessories than conducting training, I question his dedication to training.

Look for a trainer that is busy, travels and doesn't have "staff" conducting all the training. Look for a trainer that returns to the same areas and ranges year after year to train. Look for a trainer that explains why he trains you to do things a certain way, but is not dogmatic about it.

Most of all, look for a trainer that you respect and who makes you want to learn, makes you want to earn his respect.

They're out there. Some of them teach the occasional AK only class. All of them teach carbine classes and most will accommodate AKs.

A few good trainers, in no particular order: Pat Rogers, Randy Cain, Louis Awerbuck, Jeff Gonzales and Bill Jeans.

Some of the above trainer do have vids or books, but all of them are first and foremost trainers.

If you can't travel to get to a course you want to take? See if you can set one up near you. Find a range, find the time, find the students and for your effort, you'll probably get the training in exchange for doing the leg work. Sweet.

Gunsite just put out an AK video, clips posted on youtube.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7cl4...eature=related and related for teasers.

Frankly, I find the material substandard. Maybe they're just out of their element with the Commie gun. (I'm embarassed to say that, as I've been to Gunsite several times and this didn't reflect my experiences.)
