One of my buddies works for FNH, I toured the plant a couple of weeks ago. He can buy the FNP at a special discount, around $350., Been trying to get him to buy him, err,us a 357!

I remeber just a couple years ago the FN 9mm stainless could be had for 420 brand new. I should have got one then. This 357 looks awesome though. Did it just come out? I don't think I have seen one in 357sig.

Magazine capacity of 14.... so 14+1 total. Pistol comes in a hard case with 3 magazines. The reviews I have read have pretty much all been good although the reviews are for other calibers..

I think I added it to the above sticky in March 2008... You can find them on-line - probably not in the local stores

i need some advise please

ok i am in the marine corps. and where im stationed at right now im living off base in a not so good neighborhood, im bout to have a child and the neighborhood i live in i hear gun shots at night very often so im going to buy a pistol for protection
i went to the store and i saw a FN 357. for 519$ and was really interested in it i also was told that the glock 17 that was there was a good idea***but with no safety i might not want it in the house**** and also was told that a springfield armory 45. is a good choose...truth is i dont know much about guns except the ones i use in the marine corps. like a M4, M16A4, SAW, 240 GULF etc.....definitly guns i dont need or want in my house lol i want to buy a gun thats reliable, wont jam, last a long time, and is a reasonable price....but i dnt want anything too cheap like a hi-point *just an example* that might be cheap but has alot of bad things said about it.....please help me out here guys i am out North Carolina so im sure i can probably find whatever you can tell me about at the gun shows or gun stores...*i dont want to buy online tho* thanks!

I know I'm interfering with natural selection, but I really have to address this even though I might piss off Darwin's ghost. Relying on a handgun's manual safety to keep the kid/fam safe is a huge FAIL. The gun should be on you or your girl or in a gun safe with a kid around. A manual handgun safety is not going to keep junior from blowing his/her brains out.

With that said, I think the Glock is a fine gun - especially because it doesn't have a manual safety. I happen to view a manual safety as a hazard. In a split second crisis situation involving an attack, a handgun safety could actually prove fatal.

I have read and heard that the FNP quality and accuracy is very high. I've heard time and time again, from owners, that the quality/reliability is as good as Glock and SF XD.

Something like this may be what you are looking for:

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/48857

This was Taurus' entry into the military's 45 trials (that were canceled before they got going). It has a manual safety and a built in gun lock. The gun lock makes the gun unable to load or fire and, as the one reviewer states, can only be engaged with the gun completely unloaded.
( funny that subsequent reviewers comment on this, not realizing that he is talking about the gun lock not the manual safety. ) The gun lock may seem like overkill, but if you have older children who may be alone in the house at times or are worried about burglary while you are away - and can't afford a gun safe - the lock would prevent unwanted use!!
The guns you listed are all fine guns. This is just another option.

wow thanks for the link i actually do like the look of that taurus and the specs.......ill check it out....and as far as safety for the child i understand once there a certain age then YES any kid can kill himself but by the time my kid gets to that age im gonna train him to use and hold a weapon so if he ever holds one he won't hurt himself...and as far as taking the safety off in split second im not worried about me always being ready for that weapon training is something i have much of, from rifle's to pistols...as a marine we keep the safety on AT ALL TIMES for safety reasons, and do drills where we have 2 seconds to drop to a knee take the gun off safe and put 2 in the chest and 1 in the head or groin and the same with alllllll our weapons training but thanks for the concern
