Civilian G36???

This comes up from time to time, but.........

The only gun I ever wanted to buy and COULDN'T, was the Hk G36 series. Considering how much money FN is making on SCAR / PS / FS lines, is there any chance that Hk comes down from the mountain, and introduces civi G36 E/K? Chances are rather slim but you never know. Hk traditionally absolutely hates civilian rifle sales so I am not holding my breath for that one.

I really do not want to go the SL-8 conversion route. One, I already have one, and two it's just not the same thing no matter how much it costs.

Any thoughts?

I agree with you. HK will make a slaying if they made civie versions of their G-36 series.

Perhaps a civie version of the XM-8 too?

Even if they were $3000+ I would still get it, I fired a G36k in semi-mode at a local range and I've never fired anything like it. No M4 or M16 model of the AR15 comes close to it IMO... nor does the AK. I would love one, HK doesn't understand that if they did manufacture a civilian version, theyd be friggen richer than they are now.

+1.

I'd pay just about any reasonable price for a genuine semi-auto G36.
(Not some hacked up conversion.)

It doesn't seem likely that we'll see one, especially with the current
anti-gun political climate in this country.

Why would HK invest millions to manufacture a semi-auto G36 in the USA
and risk having it banned soon after?

Where do you get your info? Every pole shows just the opposite. The huge majority of politicians in both parties have said nothing anti-gun. Even Pelossi and Reed have publically stated that there will be no gun legislation while they are in power. Politicians have learned that gun control is a career ender. H&K won't sell rifles in this country because truth be known, they would prefer not to sell anything to the civilian market.

Is that true? Can you provide a link, please?

Lately I've become pretty interested in H&K firearms. I want to get an H&K or two but if that statement is true then I don't want to support them by buying their products.

First, HK does not hate civilians. After being targeted for import ban numerous times, they're still trying to bring in real German made guns in configurations allowed for by U.S. law. Since very little of HK's manufacturing is done in the U.S., 922R hits them very hard.

I'm actually glad they haven't brought more manufacturing over to the U.S. (I know they have some here already). The result would probably be similar to what happened with SigSauer. They were once great guns that were German and imported into the U.S.. Now they're down below the quality of Smith and Wesson. Take a look at the wonderful flop the Sig 556 has been.

They made rifles specifically for the civilian market (SL8 and USC) that are legal to own in almost all 50 states, yet they are unfriendly to civilians?

I know liberals!
I know that they Lie and they're anti-gun!

Trust me, when they're finished ramming unwanted national healthcare
down America's throat and all illegals are given amnesty, your guns are next.

It's just a matter of priority.

For the US civilian market...
A combination of US import laws and German export laws prevents, H&K from selling a semi-auto only variant of the G36 on the civilian market.

German laws require firearms for the civilian market to not be compatible with firearms for the government/military/law enforcement.
It's the reason why the SL8, USC, MR223 & MR308 are not compatible with their restricted use only counterparts the G36, UMP, HK416 & HK417 (the MR556 & MR762 will be compatible with their counterparts the HK416 & HK417, because they are being made in the USA, therefore they do not need to comply with the German laws).

US laws concerning importation of "sporting use" rifles and determination of what is a "MG", are what's preventing the importation of semi-only variants of the G36 & UMP.

H&K does sell semi-auto only variants of the G36 and UMP, they are available in Canada. But, since they use the same recievers as their MG counterparts, they are considered MGs in the USA (BATFE's "once a MG, always a MG" rule).

So, in order to get a semi-auto only G36 in the USA, you will have to convert a SL8 into a G36 clone or wait for H&K to manufacture them in the USA for the civilian market, which is highly unlikely.

Wilcox Industries is licenesed by H&K to make the HK45, HK45C, HK416, HK417, MR556 and MR762 for the US market.

There is no link because it's a totally ridiculous statement based only what his opinion is, and total ignorance of German and U.S. firearm importation laws. Even the internet rumors of poor customer support is starting to subside. Most recent experiences have been positive. Also, his faith in the democrat party is laughable.

Neighboring PD has full-auto G36s that I've shot. Very very nice. Now if Wilcox will hurry up and start on the MR556, I won't buy an FN SCAR. But they need to hurry up while I have rifle money budgeted aside.

Almost correct, it has nothing to do with the (intended) use of the firearm, the H&K P8 (German Army version of the USP) is available to civilians as is the P30 (German Customs Duty Pistol) for example.

The problem is, that German laws only allow semi-auto and if a semi-auto gun has parts interchangeable with the full-auto version, it is basically considered the same as a full-auto version and thus is illegal. Furthermore, the G36 is considered a "Kriegswaffe" as is the HK416 and the HK417 so the MR223 and MR308 had to be built from parts manufactured NOT for the HK416 and HK417 - although they might come from the same mold.

The official "Feststellungsbescheid" for the MR223 and the MR308 can be found here:
http://carlos.excaliba.de/Diverses/mr223+mr308.pdf

A few years ago, there was a manufacturer selling G3 clones in semi-auto but the original G3 triggergrouping did fit, so it could easily be made to fire full-auto. People who bought one of these clones had to have it destroyed. without getting their money back.

I hope you're not calling Germans of today Nazi?

The National Socialist Party (Nazi) was disbanded/outlawed shortly after
WWII and has no impact on anything today, other than the historical record of WWII.

What I hate even more than Nazis (and, boy, do I hate them) are ignorant people, regardless of their skin color or religion...

Do you mind explaining how you came from me writing about German government of a few years ago to writing about Nazis?
