question for the G29 shooters...

im toying with the idea of one day getting a G29 to compliment my G20.

however i wont do this if im religated to only shooting weak loads from the big three.

i know how my G20 handles with true 10mm ammo like you find from DT.

how does the G29 handle with the same ammo like a 135gr. DT nosler loading?

any you tube videos?

thanks.

Well the G-29 has handled everything I've thrown at it so far, 200gr XTP's with 10.5 grains Blue Dot, coal 1.260"(all hand weighed and verified)...but here is the catch this round does a true 1200fps from my S&W1006 5" but the velocity is only 1150fps from the 3.78" tube of the G-29. Don't expect the same velocity as the longer tube of the G-20.

I have the Wolf 21# recoil spring and their non captured rod in mine and this also helps, even though the factory spring works well too. I have 40S&W and 9X25 Dillon conversion barrels I use for time to time on the little jewel which affords economy with the 40's and something different with the 9x25's, I intend to get a 357Sig barrel soon.

Inconclusion don't let the smaller size of of the G-29 be underestimated, it is up to the task.

G29 will stand up to Double Tap's hottest. It is my EDC pistol.

29 handles it just fine. I'd carry it every day if I could.

I think the OP is interested in "how" it handles, opposed to "if it can" handle the full loads.

I too am curious......

I think my G29 handles the hot loads just fine, however, it's a small gun which for me requires more frequent practice to shoot it accurately. its my only pistol that goes to every range session to stay on top of it. The 135s are fun to shoot but I don't carry them.

Rob, the DT 135 grainers is what id load it with if i were able to get one.

i know from owning a G30 years ago that i will need the magazine extention that completes the grip for me to get my pinky on it.

thanks guys.

My G29 will handle anything I throw at it, from weak .40cal loads all the way up through DT hardcast loads and everything in between. I've got a .40 cal barrel, too, but I alway end up having 10mm to shoot so it doesnt get used as much.

I took my G29 to the range Sunday and fired 155, 165, 180 and 200 gr DT, 175 gr Win. Silvertips, 155 gr Hornady, Federal Hydra-shoks and Buffalo Bore 180 gr. Also shot some Georgia Arms 165 gr FMJ and some Pro-Load 180 gr FMJ.

All worked well. I was better with the Winchester Silvertips but all worked. Had to help the 165 gr DT to chamber a new round a couple times but other than that everything was great. Will mention that the Buffalo Bore is not pleasant to shoot one handed. It has a nasty kick for that little pistol handle, even with the Pearce +0 extension. I was testing out all types of ammo for the XS Big Dots. Trying to get used to the new site pic. I love my G29!! It will be my CHL weapon of choice as soon as my paperwork comes through from Texas and Utah.

Hey pard. I have loaded the G29 just as hot (if you will) as I do my G20's.

I reload, and put out some screamers believe me. The G29 handles them just as good as the big brother. I do run a Wolff metal guide rod and 22# spring in it, as I do the G20. NO problems.

Load up and go shoot and have fun, and do not worry man. Just do it.

I have a G29SF and have run D.T. 200g XTPs through it - very nice. Works like a charm and can hit even out at 50y with it. It's a solid gun. When I can get more 200g hornady xtps I am going to load up a bunch of them and get them as powerful as I can without screwing the precision up and that's going to be my go-to carry load.

This gun is my *only* gun anymore - and it puts a smile on my face. Just the right size gun and round!

I know what you mean about being able to hit out at 50y with it. My G29 is a REALLY accurate gun. It will hold it's own against any of my other handguns in that department. I could hunt deer with the dang thing if I wanted to (and if there weren't so many better options).

As others have posted here my 29SF handles every thing I stoke it with, but as the Shadow has done I replace the stock recoil rod & spring with Wolf componets. I was afraid the new G29SF which is about a year old now might not be as accurate as the old G29 but it seems just as accurate. The G29SF easily out shot my S&W 1006 and my Colt 1911 Delta Elite at 25 yards and does not leave me with sore hand and wrist.

Forgot to mention I have had two G29's, the second one being a SF model. But just this last Thursday bought the 20SF finally, not sure why I waited so long before buying.

I just shot a few hundred rounds of Georgia Arms "Canned Heat" 10mm today. It's definitely a full power load (1250 fps, same as DoubleTap's FMJ loads). My G20 and G29 (both 3rd generation) handle it just fine.

DoubleTap tests their 10mm rounds through stock Glocks, IIRC.
