I just wonder if anyone would find any real use for this blade or if its just a cool toy you would pack into the woods and play with... What do you guys think?

eh.. mine's been used for stuff a small knife would not have worked on, but really nothing that my bowie wouldn't have been able to handle. i consider it a SWORD, not a knife, not a machete. it will work as both of those, but if you don't feel you have a need for a SWORD, there are more sensible options (one monkey's opinion).

This probably is no comparison but I have a few cold steel swords (chisa katana & 1917 cutlass) and was wondering how the edge held up on the sw waki's?

you can tell it's differentially treated. the edge is quite hard. it comes pretty sharp, you can shave with it, but you have to push kind of hard and it's not real comfortable. it's kind of a rough edge, but even and more than usable. as far as how it holds up, mine did not need to be sharpened until it had halved many a two liter and chopped down several saplings. even then, it probably didn't really need to be sharpened.
