.338 win mag vs. .338 lapua mag

I know the 338 lapua came from a neck down 416 rigby and the .338 win mag is based off the .458 win mag. But what are the nuts and bolts.

The .338LM is a round designed for long-range and extreme long-range military sniper applications. The .338 Win Mag is essentially a big-bore hunting cartridge for short to medium range.

With 250gr bullets - the lightest with long/extreme-long range application, the .338LM has approx 250-300 fps more muzzle velocity than the .338WM (and approx the same difference shooting the 300gr bullets).
