Lets talk ammo

Ok Im working up too getting really good groups with my 22 and I want to start shoot some bushy tails out at 85 - 100 yards. So Im looking for extreme accuracy. What brands and loads are you guys seeing the best accuracy, least amount of drop.

I had it sighted at 50yard and when I backed out too 100 my winchester 333 bulk dropped almost 12 inches HOLY Crap. My rem subsonics dropped even more, but they did seem to fly straighter. So Im going to the high quality stuff.

Picked up
aguila .22 interceptor - 40grain and claims 1470fps
Rem yello jacket hyper velocity - 33 grains - 1075 fps at 100yard
not tested these yet

what are u guys using for some long range 22 action.

CCI Round Nose Mini Mags. quit.

If you want 100 yard accuracy get away from .22LR and go to .177 or .22 magnum.

all the eley stuff that shoots like that is about 1080fps, 40gr and are the square nosed EPS bullet. the higher velocity stuff kills accuracy, especially out that far. the subsonic eley 40gr hollow points might be worth trying. the only ones that consistently shoot like that for me are eley team, match and tenex.

i would go with the cci stuff. It's about all i use anymore. I just bought some of the cci's that are supposed to seperate into 3 pieces upon impact. I can't wait to see what they do to some tree rats.

yea the CCI stuff is looking good. I remember the eley stuffy being super pricy around here. like 13 for a box of 50. Thats kinda high, I want quality but im not comp shooting here. lol but ill get some of the cci and come back with a range report this weekend, with all the brands. Now as for range report what ammo do i sight in with ? just some bulk cheap stuff or should i site for each brand ?

Stick With Standard Velocity For Long Range

When a 22 goes from super-sonic down to sub-sonic during flight, the bullet tends to get disrupted a bit.

you might try winchester wildcat, winchester x-pert, federal 510. they are cheaper loads that could be used for hunting and usually are good enough to get the job done.

The agula shot really well today. I set it up at 50yrds and zeroed it in then did a 5 shot run. Id post it but i can find the camera. Out of the 5 shot one was dead center, three where 1/4 high left, and one was a bad trigger pull that sent it inch left high. I think my first shots are always best. Im looking for a load that dosnt drop as much. the rem hp yellow jackets are horrible. some were a super tight fit in the barrel some no. And they were all over the place even at 50yrds.

Shootin stuff at 100yards with a 22 is fun. Maybe I am just old and blind or somethin but...how in the world are you seein a squirrel at 100 yards well enough to even consider takin a shot? Perhaps I just dont get it?

I applaud your quest for 100 yard accuracy with a 22! I shoot clay pigeons with my K22 at 100 yards. Wouldnt even consider shootin at a squirrel that far. Most of the ones I've whacked with a 22 where well inside 10 yards. Plenty inside 5.

if I was gonna shoot at squirrels that far...I'm bringin my 17.

With a scope ? seeing one that far is easy ? I already hit one at 75 yards, it was a head shot too boot.

ive killed squirrels with colibri at 30y with a body shot. i wouldnt have a problem dropping one at 100 with an eley square nosed. and itll hit em.

I never had a problem with my 10/22 at 100y using bulk pack, of course I can get better with different ammo. But for squirrels bulk ammo and sighted at 30 yards, 50 max is perfect.

Let me set the scene for you. I have a hill that goes down to the pond, back side of the pond is the best squirl territory ive ever scene. Thats at 70ish yard so my shots are around 85 to 100. thus the quest for accuracy.
