Georgia Arms Update
In another thread I mentioned that I had some .45 GAP "Canned Heat" on order, but didn't know how long it would take to arrive. Yesterday I got an email that it has shipped. That means that from order to arrival it will be a total of 3 weeks. This is consistent with the feed back from others. I am a happy camper.

I placed an order for a 500rd Canned Heat on 3/28, in the evening, and I just got a UPS tracking number today (3/31)! Dang that's fast! I expected at least a 2 week delay between ordering and shipping. Who said there is no advantage to shooting a GAP? Let's see them ship 9mm or .40 cal that fast!

When are you guys gonna get serious & start reloading? The GAP truly shines with reloads and there is a ton of info here in the Bulldawg section that will give you loads that will outshoot factory loads all day long. You´re gonna go broke shooting factory ammo as well.

I don't like reloading for semi-auto pistols. All I have is a single stage press and the time it takes to reload isn't worth it to me.
I do reload for my .357 Magnum and 45 Colt revolvers as well as several military surplus rifle cartridges.

David_Ely..buy a Lee LCT press and start reloading..save time on all your other reloads also. Wont cost an arm and a leg seeing how you already have dies etc for everything else.

Forgot all about it.

Okay, for the slower learners here (namely me), what is the cost to produce a reloaded round? Said another way, how many rounds do you need to produce to break even with your current set up? I know there are many variables, but just based on your experience with your consumables are you saving a cent per round, a dime a round or more? I am not trying to be argumentative, but I need to be able to justify the initial expense. Please provide as many details as possible so I can make an informed decision.

Canned Heat is factory reloaded FMJ ammo. It's relatively low velocity and makes great range ammo.

Canned heat is packed loose in ammo cans. Less packaging, less cost.

Ordered 1K of 40S&W, had it in my hands 5 days after order...
Ordered 500 - 45acp and 500 - 38spc on 2/15, it arrives tomorrow...
All depends on what they have stockpiled and raw materials available for I suppose...

It doesn´t matter because if you plan on shooting for more than 6 mos. you will have saved money.

This...
There is a target sitting in my office (@ home) that has a big nasty ragged hole in it's center mass. Canned Heat @ 21 feet, spirited in speed on the follow up shots. I find it creates a wonderful push for recoil. I imagine you would have to score a round from a reloader in the Bull Dawg Club (or one of the many recipes available in said club) to trump it.
Oh yeah, you get a big freekin sweet ammo can with your order!

True that. Just rec'd my 1K rounds of GAP purchased on March 3rd. Accurate and easy recoil....perfect range ammo.

I've been happy w/ GA...
I also have a slew of USA Ammo .223 that has performed well...
The ONLY complaints I've heard re: GA is .223, and it's from a few years ago... A few AR15s blew... I was unable to locate any resolution, or cause noted...
A buddy has been shooting their .223 for a while, and we both just picked up some more at the recent Miami show.

Re: Georgia Arms Update
It does tend to be dirtier than most.
Returned fron range trip last night. I was shooting 45acp from Ga, buddy was going through some of the 38spc. His revolver was literally covered in soot/burnt powder, after 8 or so cycles. I had vidible chunks of carbon reside on my arms.
I don't know if this is typical of all reloads, or GA just uses a dirtier powder.....

Probobly your buddy was using Bullseye powder. Thats one reason i quit loading with it for 38 or in a stainless / nickel plated gun. Looks like you dropped it in a coal mine after 6 rounds.

Lotsaglocks..i am going to pick on 45acp for reloading cost. 116.00 for 230fmj from Precision delta..primers..30.00 ..17.00 for Bullseye powder..158.14 for 1,000 rounds. You can spend what ever you want on a reloading press and accesories to get started from 300 on up. Will it save you money ? Probobly not..why ? You will find you can shoot more at a cheaper price. Accuracy ? Handloads are almost always better than factory. hands down !! Spend some time in a few reloading sections. Hang on to that empty brass or send it my way for proper disposal .

srd, thank you for the good info and the suggestion. Based on your cost analysis to load, it looks like reloading is a no brainer. I will start following a reloading forum and get a couple books to learn all I can.
Thanks again!

Hey Lotsaglocks not a problem. I think this is one hobby you will truly enjoy. ABC's of reloading and Lyman 49th are both excellent. Wait till you try bullet casting ! Great way to spend cold winter nights. To bad we dont live closer i would be more than happy to show you in person just like i have several other friends. They found its not rocket science. Been doing it for over 30 years. Have fun !!

I've shot THOUSANDS of rounds of GA Arms ammo over the years (9mm, 45 ACP, 45 GAP, 38 Spec, 357 Mag, 357 SiG, 44 Spec, 44 Mag - FMJ, JHP, JSP, LRN) and I've posted at length on GT about it before. To make it short, I'm in Tidewater, VA and GA Arms makes it to ALL our gunshows - and I ALWAYS make it to GA Arms' booth. Some of the most, if not the most, reliable, consistent, and accurate ammo I've shot over several years, lots, and batches. It is good stuff!
The only thing that delays their shipping is the same thing that delays any other ammo supplier these days - availability of components. And they clearly post on their site what they have and what they don't. Across the board, I have found them to be a VERY above board organization and some real good folks to deal with in person, on line, or over the phone. Just a quality group all around.
And for you fellow Bull Dawgers, I just talked to the guys at the VA Beach show last week and confirmed first-hand that GA Arms has the GA State Patrol 45 GAP contract and they will be churning out GAP like no one else. Should have a steady supply for as long as it's still legal to possess a handgun.
Did I mention I like GA Arms ammo, personnel, and customer service?

Srd and I are pretty close to the same cost pr round.
'cept I can't find primers 'round my parts for 30 anymore.
$35 to $40 pr 1000 with tax has been the going rate
I'm at appx 17 cents pr round
If you've been saving your brass (please tell me you have) the biggest cost with the most variables will be the bullet you choose
here's a handy little round cost calculator
http://www.handloads.com/calc/loadingCosts.asp
plug in your numbers and mash the button
You can search on-line for component prices .
5 to 7 grains of powder ought to get you in the ball park .
It can vary a little depending on which powder, but plug in 7 grains and you'll be more than close enough (cause the powder charge is the cheapest cost)
