What is wrong with Montana Gold?
People do not seem to like them. Why? Is it because it was a DT replacement bullet, and not what people thought they ordered, or what?

That's I load, but I don't roll my own SD rounds, just for fun and practice.

MG bullets are not meant for SD.

Would it perform better in .40? What about other calibers? Who else manufactures ammo with this bullet?

The expansion on these bullets are very minimal so I would guess it's the same for other calibers. They work fine for the range....but not for SD.

I reload with MG bullets, but expect a bonded bullet in my factory SD loads.

Exactly...especially when you expect the load to have an XTP in it (which DTs loads previously did).
There is a difference between montana golds and xtps. Most of it is in expansion, but the xtp won't lose it's jacket the second it hits something - the montana gold will.
