Need 2" blade, substantial folder recommendations

1. Moving to Italy, knife laws are 2" or less for folding knives.

2. I prefer Spydercos, been carrying them since '96.

3. I want something that may be short, but is stout enough to do a job like cut rope.

4. Something with a strong enough lock it won't cut off my fingers. I don't prefer linerlocks.

Suggestions? Looking at the Zytel-handled Spyderco Mouse. Maybe the Copilot if they still make it?

Going by the limits set, from Spyderco looks like only the Cricket. <sigh>.

Well there's the Jester and the Ladybug. I keep a Jester Spyderedge on my keychain sometimes. Simple lockbacks, not the strongest lock. And no clip. You didn't mention a clip as a requirement, but I kinda got that impression.

The Dodo is only a teeny bit over, perhaps a bit of grinder work? It's almost a real knife.

The Benchmade 310/10610 Benchmite is a handy little knife. Again, no clip, but it's built like a tiny little bank vault, and the Levitator lock is very secure. I love my auto, highly reccomended.

SOG Twitch I is 1.9", lockback and assisted opening.

The CRKT PECK knives are under 2" in blade length. Minimalist. Kinda cheap...

There's a handful of sub-2" autos designed for California's odd knife laws. I assume that autos will be a problem, but here's a good listing, just in case.

How about small fixed blades? Spyderco, Benchmade, Emerson and various others make fixed blade neck knives with blades under 2".

No switchblades, not sure about fixed blades. I think "assisted openers" would count as switchblades in Italy.

MrMurphy, have you looked at the Spyderco Salsa? I have one and it is a great little knife. I believe the blade is right at 2"(the actual cutting part) and has a good strong compression lock. It may be too long. I am not sure if the law looks at the whole blade or just the cutting edge.

There are generally a few of the Salsa's on eBay at pretty good prices. That is where I got mine.
This looks to maybe be a good one also. Under 2" and S30V steel which is great steel.

No lock to worry about, strong (no lock), top of the line VG-10 blade, Micarta handles, Kydex neck sheath, price, what's not to like?! Ok, I'm gonna hve to get one. I just realised how much I like it. And how useful it would be to have as a last resort SD backup blade. Not too shabbay.

Check out a Spyder Dodo. Short, slightly hooked blade, but full length handle for a better grip. Short bladed folders often come w/ very short handles--not good for applying pressure.

+1 on the Dodo, very very tuff little knife, carry one daily as a worker blade.

Also agree 100% with the Mouse2, another wonderful choice.

I would say these two are the best choice you can get based on your needs.

The Spyderco Lava is SWEET and fits your bill. The Boker Subcom(?) is great too and is designed by the same guy.

Old school and available used - the Spyderco Co-pilot. I used to carry this one on airplanes, pre-9/11. Stout, tough and all stainless.
