I aheva couple of lead 147gr lead loads for IDPA. I have found that they just are not as accurate as lighter lead bullets pushing the same PF.

Any way to make them more accurate?

Go with a lighter projectile. If your gun is shooting the lighter projectiles better, it's telling you that it's barrel twist is set up for lighter projectiles.

If you're familiar with AR platforms, you'll see different twists for different weight projectiles. A heavier projectile will need a faster twist to get it stabilized. On the AR, a 1:8 works fine for the 55gr range; but you can get from 1:7 to 1:14 depending on what weight you plan to shoot most. Krieger feels that the optimum twist for the AR is 1:7.75, and they make that.

That's one reason the 22LR conversions have terrible accuracy (compared to a dedicated upper). A 36 gr 22LR projectile doesn't stabilize in a 1:8 twist barrel; it wants a 1:16 twist barrel (a slower twist). The dedicated upper can run the 1:16 twist for the 22LR.

Your other option, if you insist on 147gr projectiles, is to get a barrel with a faster twist than you currently have.

Every gun/ammo combo will be diff. I get great accuracy w/ 147grLFP @ 900-950fps. Same as I do w/ 124grLTC @ 1100-1200fps. SLug your bore, check your alloy (too hard can give poor results @ lower vel), try diff powders. Especially in the 9mm, matching powders to lead bullets can make a huge diff in accuracy.

I use Montana Gold 147gr bullets... when I first started I was loading them at barely 125 Power Factor. Cycled my gun just fine, and I liked it because it was super soft... but when I tested it for accuracy it was terrible.

I've since boosted them to 131PF, and they're pretty dang accurate (that's around 890fps). And with the Solo-1000 powder that I use, they still are WAY "softer" than say WWB 115gr stuff.

I am running 3.7 Solo 1000 under that bullet with excellent results in 2 guns. On the flip side my Tanfo doesnt like the light weights unless i push them hard. Its all in what the gun can stabalize and wants.

Are you also using the MG 147gr bullet? What OAL are you loading to ?

I had horrible luck with 147's in my CZ. So far the only thing that works well is a 125gr 358 RF boolit. I had to size it .003 over barrel slug size.
