I recently found out that KKM Precision was willing to mill down a G17 barrel to fit the Pencil Barrel slide, allowing a drop in aftermarket barrel for the few of us that fit in this category. The current factory barrel has an OD of .572 and they will be turning down to .532(1). Not sure how many they will make, but they are selling me one at regular price if anyone else is interested.

P.S. Please don't respond if your comment is you shouldn't shoot lead in your Glock, I have heard that story.

I'm just curious here. Could you not ream the slide barrel hole out sufficiently to accept the current factory barrel? If there were no pencil barrel replacement available would that not be an option? I have a 1st gen but it uses the current barrel diameter.

Yes, you could, but that would destroy the collector value and make the original barrel un-usable. I think the point here, is that he wants to have an aftermarket barrel to shoot lead in his Glock, and KKM is willing to accomodate him with an after-market, conventionally-rifled barrel for that purpose. (The conventional rifling removes all risks of problems from lead in Glocks, so no one should be criticizing that aspect anyway, Mitch.)

Much better to keep the collectable in original condition and modify the aftermarket parts than it is to modify the original slide. Great idea Mitch, and good on KKM for being accomodating!

About 10 or so years ago I ordered a Barsto barrel that I was going to fit myself. I recieved the barrel and when I put it up to the slide I said holy calf! I can't do that, so I packaged everything up and sent it to Barsto to fit. It was months after I got the gun back that I found out there was a pencil barrel Glock and that I have one.

Barrel showed up today and looks fantastic. Dropped right in. I will probably take it out this weekend.When you cast your own and ammo prices drop to 35$ a thousand, a barrel is a wise investment.

I think KKM is a stand up company to do that for you and they make some of the finest barrels for the Glocks!!

I have not done any real accuracy shooting with it and have not shot any groups, but as I shoot mostly steel match, 3gun and uspsa/ipsc - I never do. I can easily hit a 8" plate at 30 yards standing. 17 out of 17 shots.> if I find the time, I do have a ransom insert for a Gen 3, I could see if it will work well enough to put some groups on paper. If I had it to do over, I would do it again if I felt the need, but I shoot so little 9mm, I probably could have used the stock barrel.. Anyone want a KKM pencil barrel?

PS: before anyone warns me, I have a few glocks with over 100k of lead in the factory barrel. I know you arent supposed to, but my guns have never heard that.

I have a Gen 1 model 17 with the model number starting prefix AT. I have the.572 Barrel and my Barrel and my slide and frame all have matching numbers. Allmy parts are black inside. My gun looks to be 100% Original. How old of a gundo you have to get before you run into a pencil barrel.

I would think that would destroy the accuracy of the gun. The hole is also camfered for the barrel to tilt, it's not a straight hole. If I'm not mistaken, it's still part of the lockup of the gun going into battery, and what points the barrel straight, not just your locking lugs on your barrel/slide.
