Detail stripping question

This may seem like a dumb question for some of you. Is there anything I need to be aware of when detail stripping the slide of my Kimber Custom II ? I know they have the internal safety, how dose this complicate things? When feild stripping the instructions say not to depress the grip safety, while putting the slide back on. Jeesh I'm afraid to do anything but shoot the sucker.

i haven't had a Kimber in a while, but IIRC if you press on the grip safety, it'll raise the lever to activate the firing pin block.

Squeezing the grip safety forces the safety plunger up thru the top of the frame, and will keep you from moving the slide all the way to the rear if done while re-assembling.

The slide: The only thing different from other 1911s is the FP safety, and it is captive, held in place by the rear sight. You'll just have to manually push it up to clear the firing pin when removing the FP slide stop and FP, as well as when re-installing them.

Great explanation. Thanks, I have taken my Springfeild completely apart. I was amazed at how easy it was. (And dirty) Thank you.
