Mag insertion pressure?

Hi, I am new to Glocks as well as semi auto pistols. I have shot my Glock 17 a couple of times and my G22 about 3 or 4 times. Saturday was the first time I was using a holster. Before I had been putting the loaded mag in the gun with the slide back. On Saturday I was taking it out of my holster empty with the slide forward and putting the mag in.
I actually thought the gun was broken, it took a lot of pressure to push the mag up into the gun. Seemed to hit resistance about an inch from the top. Is this normal?
Don't IPSC shooters drop partially full mags and reload sometimes?
I know it may be a stupid question but I was always told that the question that goes un-asked is the stupid one. I am hoping this is normal.
Thanks for any imput on this subject. Cheers Roscoe

Yep, perfectly normal. When you insert a full mag into the gun (with slide forward) you must compress the magazine spring to lock the mag in place. You will learn to seat the mag with authority!
