FOB Shindand

My son is deploying to FOB Shindand (per his APO address). I looked it up on Global Security, but other than saying its in western Afghanistan in Herat Province, there's not much else. An old Russian air base.

Anybody got any more scoop on this FOB? How does Herat compare to Helmand? he was at Khandahar for his first deployment, which was fairly uneventful.

My detachment had 2 guys in Herat until early this year - much LESS eventful than Kandahar (where we also had 2 guys).
"Liberal" is when you hire others to use a guns to protect you, so you can pretend guns aren't necessary.
