I unloaded my gun the other day and noticed that the lead was a little deformed on the tip of the bullet. How can I determine if it is becoming damaged on the way in or out? Will this affect accuracy? How can this problem be rectified?

Hold the charge handle and let it move forward slowly, watch the tip.
It is probably hitting the feed ramps. I would try Pmags or HK mags to get the bullet tips angled up a little higher, HKs are expensive but you get what you pay for.
Also there is a mag spring tweak to put more pressure on the front of the follower.
