Today, I just hit my all time high of documented 40s rounds threw my 1st gen steyr M40.
It had problems getting to this number, but it made it. Today for example, I had 7 failure to chamber, but I contribute this to I have not been cleaning it between sessions in the last 3 months of shooting. I've also replaced the recoil spring now 3 times, extrator claw 1 time, front sight once, and the trigger safety assembly 1 time ( don't even use it any more now ).
Out of the 53,287 rounds, 27,877 where handloaded with 180gr montana Gold ( I only kept records on that bullet ). God knows how much I've spent on powder and bullets and on factory loaded ammo
I also briefly installed a 357sig bbl back around 2002 for trial and fun but sold that off after the 1st year of service.
Unlike the suspicious that was drafted up about 4-5 years back with regards to the lack of a firing pin safety ( if you been around the poster by the name of "chicken something ", and the
possible failure of the firing pin, I haven't had any issue in regards to this area.
One thing that has impress me somewhat, the magazines that originally came with the gun looks great and works with no teardown or spring replacement. Outside of 1-2 small rust spots, these mags held up ( original 2 btw ).
I did buy some additional 12rd magazines about 3 years back to add to my inventory. They are 12rd'er LE/GOV stamped, but seems to be holding up great and the extra 2rds does help
I'll pull everything out and try to post a picture of all items. What makes this such a great gun and outcome, I only spent like $330 dollar plus shipping or somewhere in that range.
