Practical use of a longslide?
OK, you guys almost have me hooked..but:
What do you guys USE your longslides for? If i tie up the cash in this product, this thing had damn well better earn its keep by eating everything i feed it, and being stone reliable...just like my other glocks.
i'd only consider a G-20L, as its my EDC. I'd expect some good gains in velocity due to the longer barrel, as well as acuaracy due to sight radius.
So what practical use do you all put the longslides to? anyone carry one?

I use mine for target shooting, hunting and woods protection. With the LWD 6" Barrel, Wolff steel guide rod and 22lb spring, it eats everything I feed it. I dont think the extra length over stock adds much benefit for carry though. I can hit 10" plates @ 25-50yd all day with my stock G20SF, and I can't really see taking shots at that distance for self defense. Anything can happen, but odds are it won't be outside of 10yds. I don't regret one penny spent on my G20L, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I use my recently-purchased G34 as a range gun and in rotation as a home defense weapon. In Katrina-type circumstances I could conceivably use it as a carry piece or as the weapon in the bug-out bag.
My problem is that I do not shoot it as accurately as I would like; I am working on that...

G20L (in process)- Hiking/camping/fishing gun
G34 (when I had it) Range toy, suppressor host.
I like the feel and balance of the long slides, but there's no way I could personally carry one! But they're great for suppressors

I don't think you're going to find too many people who shove 6" of slide/bbl into the waistband...it can be done, but, sitting down is problematic...
I use my 35 occasionally as the 'reach for' pistol at home (with 20+1 Arredondo extensions), but, doubt I'd ever shove it into a waistband, even with it's 'only' 5.3" bbl...

kinda odd, my stock g-20's slide is about 7", and from what i can ken from the net, the LS is slightly over 8". It will have a few issues, but i find them closer to those associated with carrying a fullsize vs a compact.
when i get mine, i doubt i'll want to be without it, i am a fan of sight radius.
BTW, did you have any teething issues with the arredondo floorplates?

I have carried a G35 on duty including entries on search warrants. I also know a number of other officers and State Troopers that carry them everyday. The one I had was a LE model and did not have the 3.5 lb connector, yet it was still seemingly easy to shoot. My qualification scores were always very high (98% range) with that gun.
I also wore it on about four hog hunts where I used it to put an "insurance shot" into a downed boar. (FMJ Ammunition)
I was issued a G22 and then, out of the blue, a co-worker offered me a really nice revolver and cash for a trade. The deal was really good and I had the G22, so I took it.
It was a great gun, though, and I found it useful. Really no more difficult to carry than a G22.

I don't understand the comments about problems with carrying 6" of slide. I carry my 34 in sportcoat weather with no problems in a CTAC slide IWB holster. The extra length compared to a 17 isn't even noticeable, and while I know I'm carrying a longer gun than my 26, it's still not that bad. The 34 is not appreciably bigger than a fullsize 1911, yet people carry those with no problems.
The only issue I have with the 34 is the same as the 17 -- the grip length tends to print, especially if all I have on is a hawaiian shirt or similar. But if you can conceal a 17, you can conceal a 34/35.

I have a GLock 35, and like it very much....
I think it could be concealed IWB with a decent holster. OWB is comfortable, as is nearly any pistol weighing something less than the 72 ounce Desert Eagle..
But I'd bet you can count on one hand the number of people in the country actually carrying them (34/35) 'Inside the Waistband' daily...
Might be a good poll time:
Honestly, who carries a GLock 34/35 IWB daily?

I carry a 35 three or four days a week and when I know im going into a bad part of town, Ill bring along my 24C. I think that the 35 and the 24 are easier to carry than the 23 that I used to have. The shorter barrel length would dig into me in places and the longer slides just dont. 6 foot and 230 pounds. Can carry the 24 IWB with dickies shorts and the right t shirt

I've carried my G34 OWB a few times, and my G21L OWB once. I figure that if a perp is trying to make a getaway in a car, the extra mag capacity and longer sight radius will let me bring directed fire on him out to at least 50 yards.

I got a 34, 35, 17L, and a 24 dedicated to .357sig and I carry them all. Takes a bit to come up with holsters but you can. I know because I have. Now I just bought a 21SF that I am gonna convert to a 6 inch long slide also.

I just got my Longslide from LWD for my G-20. All stainless... sweet. Ordered a C-more STS Sight for it. Added a Lightning Strike Trigger, Lightning Strike Titanium Striker and Plunger, Wolff Competition Springs and a 3.5 Ghost Ultimate Connector.
Use it for target shooting and hunting. Really like the weight distribution and sight radius.

The 34 & 35 are no longer than a 1911. Plenty of folks can CCW a 1911. Mine rides in a Artoonian holster. Great fit, very secure and with a cover shirt its practically invisible.

Do yourself a favor, If you can, go somewhere they a have a G34/35 and compare alongside a 17L. I know everyones tastes are different, and I wanted a 17L so bad, and, it took me quite awhile to finally get one. Had it for two weeks, and there was nothing I liked about the way it pointed, felt, looked. When it came time to order a longer slide for my 21, I got the tactical length, in 10 MM of course! Absolutely love this gun, shoots perfectly, points naturally and carries OWB very nicely. FWIW

After reading some of the posts here I retrieved my G35 and replaced my G27 in the MTAC I am wearing with it. I am 6 feet and weigh 260 pounds. I use dark colors in all my T shirts when covering my weapon so I have never had any issues hiding it.
I rarely CC my G35. The last time I did was last year in another state and I almost ended up having to draw down on a tweeked-out meth head that verbally threatened to shoot my better half and I (a long story that I don't have time to relate right now).

G34 for IDPA and G24 for bowling pins - though my G21 would likely be as good or better than the G24 for pins.
Don't like carrying a lot of bulky iron and plastic for an EDC - a gun you will likely never need to use in any given lifetime. Ergo, Kahr PM-9 for EDC, Glocks for competition/range.

I only use my G34 for competitions. G21 for bowling pin and sometimes carry. G19 for some competitions (GSSF) and main carry gun.
