Clue #1: Neither knife mentions steel type. Run away, run away.
The Junglee short sword is AUS-8, 14+" blade, and about $100. If you just want a big ol whacker that'll slice off saplings or 2" branches with one whack, it'll work.
The Kershaw Outcast is 65-75$, 10" blade, D2 steel, needs a bit of work to improve the factory edge but worth the money.
Ontario makes decent big knives in 1095 steel, and if you avoid oceans they work great. Rustproof they ain't.
IMO one of the better values in a real Bowie design is the Case XX bowie @ 100-150$, decent surgical stainless and a great balance..
Those two knives you pointed at aren't either one worth carrying to the house. I'm selling two of the ones I mentioned, and I'm quivering on the edge of withdrawing the Case Bowie. The Outcast you can Ebay, maybe save 5$ on my asking price, but it's for sure worth what it costs. It's the biggest D2 knife I've seen commercially available and don't suck at all.
If you want to know of 2 more cheap 'bowies', Western makes one, and Schrade makes a giant 14+" blade bowie style. Should be able to find either one under 50$.
Don't buy one. BUT, they're in the ballpark with your two, strictly wall hangers.
What I'm keeping of my big knives are 2 copies of the Kershaw Outcast, a Smatchett, and maybe that Case if I work up the nerve..
Cold Steel sells two kinds of knives. Too expensive, and too cheap. With few exceptions the quality/price ratio is lopsided. Beaters for cheap or quality at extortionate overpriceing.
And for the record a 'real' fighting 'Bowie' looks like this..
and ACTs like it. Which you can manage with a Kershaw Outcast, given the proper profile and sharpening. Figuring the extra work to reprofile the outcast, it boils down to 100$ and up for a real 10"+ fighting/survival blade, unless you make 'em yourself. No doubt many will be satisfied with generic steel and "Big" but if you're going to carry a pound of blade it ought to be able to cut something.
On a budget, out of the box, I'll buy it from you if you hate it..
current low dollar price 105$ ^^ a good search might save another 15$..
