Hi, Joe. 2400 is a slower burning powder than Unique, so it would be better suited for heavier loadings. For max loads though, I think you would be better served with either Win 296 or IMR 4227.
It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure this out...Larry Holmes could figure this out.

You might want to look up some of Elmer Keith's 45 Colt loads. He used 2400 with the 250 grain cast Keith bullet. He loaded up a bit when Ruger came out with the Blackhawk and the Redhawk is even stronger. I like the 250 Keith loads in my 4 5/8 inch Blackhawk. They will run with the 44 Magnum.

I have 2 Ruger 45 Colts, a Redhawk & Blackhawk. My Unique load with a 250 grain bullet, some plated, a few jacketed is in the 9.5-7 grain area. This is in the modest 'Ruger only'(T/C too) catagory. My chrony speeds with the 250 grain plated bullets was in the 1070 fps range out of a 4 5/8" Blackhawk. With your Ruger you could delve in the 9-10 grain area with Unique & a 250 grain bullet and be fine. There are a few older issues of 'Handloader' magazine that are well worth tracking down. I could search my stack if need be. The articles go into detail on loads & pressures for loading modern Rugers(mostly) in the 45 Colt.

One of those Handloader magazine issues is April 2007, #246. There is some great 45 Colt loading info. I don't have the other issue at the moment that has additional 45 Colt info not found in the average reloading manual.
