Beretta 1201FP
Any of your departments using this scattergun?
Detroit PD is unloading their's at a near steal.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them.
A thousand dollar shotgun for under $400 is a buy even if it does have some bodies on it.
I'm wondering what they are replacing them with.
Whatever it is it can't be any faster than the Beretta.

Never used it at the department level, but that was/is my personal fighting shotgun. Reliable, lightweight, and like you said, FAST. I used to show off a bit with mine sometimes when giving classes, and would do 5 rounds of 00Buck on target in under 1 second.

Just bought one from a GT member, and it seems like quite the shotgun! It is very lightweight yet solid, and not a lot of frills, which I like. I would not mind finding a side saddle for it, but overall, I give it 5 stars.

Had one, sold it for almost what I paid for it four years earlier. I guess I got tired of getting kicked so hard. And if I remember right, the saddle for the Benelli S90 fits. I had one on mine and I believe that's what I used.

Got mine through an FFL here in NE Ohio.
He had several that he sold quickly.
I'll check to see how he came by them.
These don't have Detroit Police Department stamped into them like the Glocks did.
They were in great shape for having been used by the PD.
Hardly had any internal wear and not much abuse from the racks.
Any Detroit guys on here know anything about them?

I'm a HUGE fan of gas-operated Beretta shotguns & inertia-operated Benelli shotguns... my old Beretta 1200FP is the best of both worlds!
I just use a 'butt-bag' for extra ammo & added a small section of picatinny rail to the forearm for some white-light:
I also added this for a 2-point or 3-point sling so I could get rid of the 'barrel band' pictured above:
The Beretta 1200FP/1201FP is light enough, fully-loaded, that even a single-point sling work well with it as seen pictured above.
FYI, I haven't found anything that my 1200FP won't cycle... even the lighter 1oz #8 target loads.
On a side note, I just picked up a nice 1201F (field model w/28" barrel) for my brother... it's in GREAT shape & I got it for him for $320 out the door even!

Sounds like I should hold on to mine then
I was thinking about selling it since I normally use my Remys. About how much does a barely used safe queen go for these days?

just ordered one of these.... http://www.gunsamerica.com/971480451...e_Rifle_S.htm#
or
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...=212203955#PIC
they are listed on gunsamerica, and GB and auctionarms. They also have the 1201.
seemed like a deal. I had a 1200fp in the early 90's,then a 1201. Had to get another 20" 1200 for the capacity.

That looks like it could come in handy in Detroit. I wonder why they are dumping them.

probably just due to age. Those berettas will put a wall of buckshot downrange within seconds.

Is that a 7 round tube? Seems like a lot of shotgun for the money compared to the Benelli's.

they are a 6+1 capacity, with the ability (once I remember how) to carry another round on the lifter. I just purchased one from Robertson trading post. Mine overall looked excellent, some wear and tear, but minimal, no deep gouges or anything like that. Some sticker residue on stock that wd40 should get off. Well worth the $409 shipped, and $10 dealer transfer fee. imho

Yup, 6+1+1! Mine's currently loaded up with 8 total rounds... works 100% this way as wells... tested it several times!

I bought mine when Clinton banned them from import with the combo pistol/butt stock for personal use. I think I paid around $650.00 new back then. Love the gun and have never had a problem with it. It is my HD shotgun.

I wouldn't mind having one of those, but I can't justify the expense right now. I want too much stuff.

haven't shot anything but buck in this one, but the 1201 I had before this one, did not like low brass birdshot. Wanted to hang up every once in a while. Anyone else experiance this? reckon the solution is just use buckshot or high quality heavy birdshot loads.

In my younger..college days, use to shoot skeet with a 1200FP. My buddys said it couldn't be done.
The gun is so light you can hit the birds as they come up and walla, they disintegrate. You cannot get much range with it, so you got to be quick.

The ones offered are the pre-ban models, which have a capacity of 6+1 with the capability to load a seventh round on the carrier. The post-ban ones have a crimp pressed all the way around the mag tube that limits capacity to 5+1 and the bolt is redesigned to prohibit loading an additional round on the carrier. The easy way to tell the difference is that the older ones have a 20" barrel that extends beyond the mag tube. On the newer, 5+1 capacity 1201FPs, the 18.5" barrel does not extend beyond the mag tube.
I'm wondering if a newer 18.5" barrel would be a direct fit on the pre-ban model. Looking at the photos, it appears it would.
BTW, the Benelli M90 pistol grip stock is a perfect fit on these. Beretta/Benelli USA was selling these $200 stocks for $40 a couple months ago.

Very nice!
Is that some of that Rio buckshot on the sleeve I see? I recently bought 125rds of it myself. My gun likes it.
