I don't like clip ons
I feel they are of very limited benefit. Am I wrong?

Limited use for a street bike, I should have said. I think a rider is better served by some wider bars on a street bike. What do you think?

Different strokes for different folks, right?
I bought a Ninja 650R because it had handle bars and not clip-ons, for the very reasons you might be suggesting.
I spent the next year figuring out how the heck I could get clip-ons and/or more aggressive handlebars on it. When I finally did put on a set of low-rise, downward sloping bars on it I loved it. That's when you start realizing you should've just bought a ZX6.
It's hard to hang-off with wide handlebars.
Spare me the "you don't need that crap for the street" speech, I could give it myself. Don't disagree one bit.
Motorcycle = emotion. If it doesn't light you up to look at the machine, why bother? Like seeking a member of the opposite sex, different things turn different people on.

There's a reason why clip-ons are mounted to sport bikes, and not everything else.

Depends on the bikes and the riders.

I didn't say it was impossible unless you had clip-ons. Why don't MotoGP bikes have handlebars, then?

I agree there is a reason why they are on race bikes. That reason doesn't translate to the street very well if at all.

I like the looks of clubman bars. I have a weakness for cafe bikes

Exactly.
However, what are you gonna do with the sportbikes? Change out the clip-ons for handlebars?
Oops, Aprilia had been doing that for ten years already.

I don't mind them, but then again, they're pretty much all I know. I was "born and raised" on sportbikes (YSR50, ZX6, then ZX6R), and have very limited seat time on anything with actual handlebars.
That being said, it doesn't mean I don't like them. I've been wanting something more along the lines of a hooligan/naked type bike for a bit, but can't afford one. That, and if I had the money, it would probably go towards an older cafe racer type bike for me to restore and casually race at the track, etc.
So I guess clip-ons are OK with me.
