Need 9mm 147 Gr. cast load
Loading cast 147 Gr. TC bullets for the first time and wanting a recommended load using 231. I currently run 4.3 gr. of 231 with a 115 LTC. Any favorite loads using 231 and the 147 gr. cast TC?
I have been reloading for 30 years so understand all about starting lower and working up.

Lyman doesn't list any data for 231 and 147gr lead bullets. Neither does Hodgon.
JACKETED data from Lyman is 3.5gr - 4.1 @ 1.115 OAL. Thats probably useless as your not going to be able to load the 147gr out to that length more then likely. ALSO it's JACKTED DATA. NOT lead data. You could easily work something up if you had a chrono.

I've loaded the RCBS 147grLTC @ 1.115" OAL o/ 3.5gr of W231 for 944fps in my G17 w/ LW bbl.

I've used 3.3grs with a 158gr LRN, so you could start there and probably work up to 3.5 or a little higher. Are you wanting to stay subsonic, or just looking for something that functions well?

I run the Missouri Bullet 147 TC over 3.5 grains of 231. Very consistent 900 fps and shoots great from my M&P.

Thanks guys. Just looking for a plinking/target load. Not looking for anything too hot. I dont normally shoot bullets this heavy, but got a bunch at a greatly reduced price.

As you're no doubt aware, the Hodgdon site just lists data for WSF in the 147g CFP. I'm guessing that the CFP is similar to the TC profile.

After you run out of 231..
try 3.8grns. WST. You'll never look back after that.
