Duplicating 9mm 124gr.+P Gold dot load.

I want to duplicate the factory load for the
Speer gold dot 124gr.+P load for 9mm.
I have been checking the net, but have not
been able to come across exactly what I need.
I have a boatload of W231, which I will use and
the Speer 124gr gold dots which I have ordered.
Starline brass and CCI primers.

I have a Lyman 47th edition loading handbook
which gives a max load in 9mm using a
jacketed 125gr softpoint using 4.6gr W231,
which gives 1099fps. and 31,500 cup.

Speer shows the factory 9mm 124gr GDHP at
1150fps. muzzle, and the same in +P at
1220fps. muzzle.

Any fellow reloaders out there with an opinion on
this Lyman loading, or any of you have a better
handload for duplicating the Speer using a different
powder, I would appreciate the input. I could always
buy a different powder. Many thanks.

Here's a few 124 grn bullet loads, some above the 1200 mark.

Well you aren't going to do it safely w/ any powder faster than Unique. PP has way too much muzzle blast. You can dafely get to 1200fps w/ Unique, WSF, Longshot or AA#7. As clsoe as you'll get to factory & their non canister powders.

Out of curiosity, what are you using these loads for?

I've always been a fan of reloading my own practice ammo, but I've also had a personal opinion of utilizing brand name ammo for my defensive loads. <shrug>

50 fps difference/less velocity for the handload is hardly going to seem like you are shooting .22LR subsonics...; not worth the trouble altering powders....

6.2grns. WSF with 115/124s will get you 1250fps, give or take. Superbly accurate, too.

Thanks for the replies so far fellows, this gives me
something to work from.
Fireman, I was just wanting to work up a good load
with a little more velocity and expanding bullets
that I could count on in a SHTF scenario, like Katrina or
who knows what may happen in the future.
I shoot and load fmj to practice with and do use
factory gold dots for my carry load and for HD use.
Just wanted to have a good back up defense load
that I could count on if needed.

Load 124 grain Gold Dots to 1.120" and use Winchester Special Field WSF powder. Ramshot Silhouette powder works well too.

I've tested the Speer 124 GD's in a Glock 19 using Unique powder, Win cases, and CCI 500 primers. I got 1135 fps average with 5.4 grains of Unique at an overall length at 1.120"-1.125". Temperature was in the 50's the day I chrono'd them. Shoots good. Alliant data says 5.8 grains of Unique is maximum at 1180 fps. They used Speer cases and CCI 500 primers. I would use NEW unfired brass if I were trying to load +P data. Just for some info. Work up to higher charges of any powder. You won't get the velocity with Win 231 you're looking for.

AA #5 will get to 1200fps no problem and be at standard pressure. It's got a bit more muzzle flash than others though, but not as much as Power Pistol or Longshot.
