Speer Short Barrel Ammo?

Mas-I recently acquired a LNIB S&W 457 and of course, it has the short 3" barrel. I've tried Ranger T 230 (not the +P) and it feeds those well and groups about as good as I can shoot.

Question is, with that short barrel, would I better be served by Speer's 230 gr Gold Dot's Short Barrel ammo for SD purposes? I don't know if the Ranger T's would even expand at all with the short barrel at relatively close range but thought perhaps the SB version of Speer's with it's wider mouth may act more like their old Flying Ashtry and not need 850-900 fps to expand properly.

When they introduced the Ranger-T, the folks at Winchester said they had engineered it to open at low velocity. I'd personally be comfortable with either round.
