Okay well my buddy messed up his AR and brought it to me to fix it and I can't quite figure out what's wrong. He said he thinks he pushed his safety too far an broke something. The safety is loose and clicks in different spots than the marked fire/safe. The gun is now a single shot and it feels like something is locking up with the trigger and safety after each time you pull the trigger. You pull the charging handle and then push the safety back a little and the trigger clicks forward a little and it will let you fire a shot, then it starts back over.
If I can't figure out what it is I am just gonna start replacing pieces in the lower and see if that will take care of it.
Pull the grip off, the spring and detent pin should fall out. Take a look at the pin, it should be pointed on one end and flat on the other, someone may have placed a smaller detent pin in the wrong hole. next pull the safety lever out and inspect it, IMO it would be pretty hard to break a safety lever. Look down in the trigger assembly, there could be trash between the disconnector and trigger.
The hammer must be cocked to get the safety back in.
turns out he put the detent spring into the hole for the pistol grip screw and it was binding everything up, I have a new detent spring on the way and hopefully that will take care of things.
