Congrats on the P6. You can send it back to Sig and have it gone through . It's great deal especially when they install new night sights and replace worn and defective parts and clean it.

bac- Thanks for the kind words.
j- yes you do, lol.
r- I've been going back and forth on that one. The Sig package is real good. Excellent really especially with the sights. However, I'll get it refinished in the next year. So right now the plan is to replace the take down lever, replace the hammer (I hate the P6 hammer) and replace the hammer spring (I use 18#). I already replaced the front sight with a plain #8 with a white dot. I like a plain rear (all black, no dots, no marks) and a front with a dot.

Lucky dog ... having not one P6, but two. I've always believed it was the most perfect size single stack auto made. Other than the P225 of course ....
Very nice.

1911 - Thanks much. I agree, the grip on a P6/225 is perfect, with the 228 a close 2nd. These are in key spots inside the house. And hey, this is post number 200!

Congrats. Did you pick it up from an online dealer? I'm trying to figure out where I can pick one up in excellent condition.

Jamaicanj- I did get it from an online dealer but they're out and not expecting anymore anytime soon. JG has some at a great price ($350.00). Here's the link- http://www.jgsales.com/product_info....oducts_id/1903
I've never done business with them but have never heard anything bad and they get some interesting stuff. Good place to keep an eye on.
wward 31- that thing needs a twin!

OK, I'm new to SIG's, and I'm here looking for info on my newest acquisition, a 220 Elite. I'm sure not going to get any help on the SIGForum, it would appear!
At any rate, what the heck is a P6? Is that just an insider name like calling a Hi-Power a P35?
Thanks, and I'll be back with questions on other SIG stuff I'm sure. Just when I started getting the hang of Glocks, I've got to go and get into SIG's!

Heya, P6 is the german police designation for a sig P225. All the P6's are old german police Pistols and are marked P6, have a lanyard hook type thing on the hammer but are otherwise identical to a P225. The P225 is discontinued by sig for some time now, though they have made a few new ones, probably contract over runs... all german made, stamped steel instead of milled. The P6 is the best opportunity most will have to own a wonderful little single stack 9mm. At quite a reduced cost to a P225 new 775.00 vs 350.00. Hope this helps.

Excellent info! I may have to try to track down one of these critters, I've had my eye on a P225 at a local pawn shop for a long time. Nice guns.
My SIG is a 220 Elite, black frame, stainless slide. Haven't even gotten to shoot it yet. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions when I do.

jonbondave explained it perfectly. Another difference is the P6 has a heavy hammer spring (24#) so the DA trigger pull is heavy compared to a 225. I swapped out mine with Wolfe 18# springs and am happy with it. The P6's can look good but will, generally, not look new. They'll have some external wear to them. Internally they can look perfect. Don't be afraid of that though as they're all tough. In other words these are shooters, not likely collectables. I really like both of mine. Cheap, accurate, handy size.
Fancy pistole that Elite! Post some pics if you get the chance.

I bought three P6s at Dan's Ammo back when they were advertised for 259.00 . Dan was nice enough to let myself and several buddies drive over to his warehouse and hand pick our P6s. We rooted around through lockers full of them and hand-selected some keepers. Actually, all of them were in fine shape, some just had less wear. I found one marked 6/83 that must have spent it's life in a desk . Still one of the best firearms deals I've ever come across.

Well, I wouldn't call mine fancy, but I don't know much about SIG's other than the excellent reputation. I've always wanted a 220, never been able to have a pistol show up at the same time I had available cash though.
Anyway, this is one of the Certified Pre-Owned (as opposed to used I guess) guns that are police trade-ins. I think I got a good deal on it, but I have no real idea, I just wanted it!
It is an alloy frame (black) with a stainless slide, marked 220 Elite. No rail (fine with me), fixed "I" sights (I like them), and a DAO trigger (good since I'm used to Glocks and Ruger SR9's). I suppose this one has the DAK trigger, not sure if that is the only version of SIG's DAO.
The gun looks almost unfired. No markings even on the feed ramp or magazine follower. It does have a minute scratch on the slide at the top right rear, almost can't find it. And there are a couple of "spots" on the bottom of the trigger guard where it was banged into something. That's it.
What have I got, and what is it worth? I know what I paid, just hope it is in the ballpark!
Sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread!
