Barrel - I sold my last Scout and regretted it almost as soon as I sold it so I just purchased a walnut scout that is still in the box. Springfield has a lifetime warranty, so..I would not put the extra money in a new barrel and the current factory one should be fine.
Ammo - I have have shot a great deal of surplus ammo and never had a single issue. Some will shot a more clean than others. If you go to other M1A web sites you will get tons of information on ammo.
Mags - checkmate mags, I have only used 20 round mags, 44mag.com good prices and great service
Brake - I changed mine out, factory one is fine but I changed mine out (can't remember the brand, but same one that is Coast Guard Approved)
Warranty - great service, I have never needed it but always there if needed
Aimpoint - I put mine on the scout and it became a heat sink and I did not like the way the rifle became very front end heavy, going to point a scope mount on mine
What you should watch out for? Your addiction to shooting a great rifle with a nice punch.

I like the balance of the Scout Squad. So here are my questions.
-When I got my M1A (before I swaped out for a Match Barrel) They came with CL USGI barrels. Guess they are all out, and now they come with Chrome-Moly Barrels. Yes, yes, yes. We've all heard the CL are supposedly less accurate, but I think you have to be a pretty good shot to tell the difference. How is the accuracy and longevity of the new barrels?
-Are they still as reliable as I experienced? Does it do well (function) with most ammo, including 7.62x51 surpluss? No, I'm not going to be blasting through 500 rounds in 1.5 minutes.
-When I got my M1A, it was during the ban. USGI 20 rd. mags were a bit pricey. They are cheaper now. How is the quality of the CMI(Checkmate) mags? The 25 rd. mags?
I noticed that the Scout Squad comes with a Stabalizer/Brake. Is this thing worth a darn? Noticeable reduction in jump/recoil or would I be better off with a NM FH (looks better anyway)?
Does Springfield still have a lifetime warranty on the M1As?
-I would want to mount a standard Aimpoint on the barrel mount. Any issues with this? Sight allingment? Overheating? Cheek weld?
Anything of note or to be aware of?
-Any bugaboos or problems that I should watch out for?
