over cranked windage adjustment?

I was boresighting a kahles cl, and 'bottomed out' the left to right windage adjustment before i realized that i needed to adjust the rings. So I slide the rings over a tad and try to adjust the windage back to center. It was very, very difficult to move - and when it did move, everything on dial moved - the screw was loose and nothing clicked. What did I do and how can I fix it?
