It's possible to get one in .40 and 10mm, but not .45

You would be better served in figuring out which one you want/need more to have the light rail and get either a .45 or 10mm light rail gun and then purchase a second, less expensive model sans LR in the second caliber.

I recommend a Springfield TRP with or without the LR in .45 and a STI in 10mm, again, with or without a LR.

Just a barrell/sprint swap ... no. The case is a different size (.40 versus .45 diameter) and subsequently the slides have different breechface sizes.

However, if your pockets are deep enough, you could have a smith make you two slides - one a .45 and one a 10mm - that would both be fit to the same frame. This would allow you to run .357Sig, .40S&W, 10mm, .45ACP, .45Super, .45GAP, and 460 Rowland out of two slides and 6 different barrels.

Seriously, two slides would get you 10mm and .45ACP .... a second barrel for the first slide will also get you cheapo .40S&W which, I must say, is a very nice cartridge in a 1911.

Thanks guys. i like throwing ashtrays. If I have to hit someone with something I want them to KNOW for sure they have been hit. I am still struggling with the .45 Vs 10mm thing. I'll work it out in time. At least I have decided on the 1911 platform. Again thanks guys.

Give Caspian a call. A while back I ordered one of their Titanium framed 1911's with stainless 45 upper and an additional 10mm sts upper. The weapon came in a custom case with one upper fitted, the other in the case. To change calibers I simply have to change uppers.
