Options expiration on Thursday. Govt forces down prices to exit their shorts without losing their pants.

This.

The trend is obvious to those who aren't obsessed with daily / weekly gains.

The dollar is failing - commodities will hold their value. Econ 101.

I believe the brokerage houses raised the margins - yet again!

Welp, $43.26, looks like this latest buying opportunity is rapidly closing.

Is anyone not yet convinced we are headed for a double-dip?

Double Dip, no, this is the 3rd year into a great depression.

We produced no net jobs in August, and the prior two months were revised downwards.

Double dip would suggest recession. I think we're in a mini depression. Only an illusion that there's still some control or order, and some folks that still have money is preventing total breakdown.

Cognitive dissonance, sure.

Nice little movement in PMs today. I'm hoping it'll get even better after the long weekend.

I think its funny how the title says $24/oz (back when this thread 1st started) and today its over $43/oz.

I have an aunt who still thinks that investing in PM's isnt a good idea. She preaches mutual funds yet on average most peoples mutual funds have shrinked about 30% since the 2008 bubble burst. While silver has about doubled.

There is still lots of value in silver in my opinion. I'll buy it up to about $60/oz. R. Kiyosaki believes silver could go up fairly high but I personally dont feel comfortable buying past $60/oz right now. Like anything else you still need to know when to sell.

PMs really aren't your best bet for growing your wealth. They are nice from an S/P standpoint and they can be a good hedge.

Please look at more than the past several years before coming to a conclusion.

And diversify

How long do you think it will be before silver is $60/oz or more for, say, 2+ weeks?

Everything has its day.

Silver will cross $100

Good for you.

My point was, holding metals in 1986 was a bad idea. Holding them in 2001 was a very good idea. Much of the conventional wisdom and much of the advice that is sold today is built on retroanalysis of the greatest equities bull market the world has ever seen. It could be a mistake to assume we will just repeat it.

I started when it around $15 or so. It was only 2-3 years ago that I paid $110 for a roll of 1964 Kennedys. Now they're about $312.

*raises hand* Yo, just for the record, I take any "opinion piece" from NPR with more than a grain of salt. Mainly just interested because one does not hear the g-word that often in most media sources.

I listen to NPR sometimes for the same reason I also sometimes browse places like far-left messageboards and places promoting "reconquista" - better to know what the other side is thinking than not!

Silver down $1.15 right now today. Not sure why, given all the other horrible financials today. Gold basically flat.

Buy silver on every dip!

Hello,

I was thinking over this. What will happens if our dollars is being hit with the deflation; will silver and gold make different in the deflated economy?

I have seen that we will go up little with the inflation then hit deeply with deflation and then crash or serve depression.

I don't know if I am doing right. I am hoarding some cash in my hands in case for the deflation economy and Gov't run with the banks. However, I don't know if I should buy silver bullions as a hedge for the deflation. Is that a wise move?

Any monetary deflation (and that's what it will be, it won't be price deflation) won't last long and will be followed by massive price inflation. You should have at least 5-10% of your cash in gold/silver, and that's conservative.

Silver just keeps bouncing around between $41 and $43 or so. Given the continuing deterioration in all things financial I expect the next up movement phase to begin before too long. I think we'll easily see $50 by the end of the year. Silver could go to $90 without gold even moving if the ratio would just drop to 20, which has happened before.
