MA-TEN build

Here it is about 1/2 way through. TA01B on top. Lower is complete, but it will be getting an SSA-E trigger in the future. Will be getting a Daniel Defense lite rail once I decide on the barrel - still debating on what barrel I want. I am leaning towards a Kaiser 18" barrel since I am not necessarily looking for this to be a precision rifle. I would love to put a Noveske barrel on it, but $550 is a bit steep. Anyway, for your viewing pleasure.

I'd go all the way and get the Noveske barrel. That is a fantastic looking build so far. Maybe a VTAC 13" tube?

The VTAC HG is a possibility given that the DD .308 HG is humongous. Thank for the idea fodder - just when I thought I had it narrowed down.

Agree with the Troy TRX Extreme VTAC 13" - lightweight and inexpensive (relatively). It looks kick ass with a 16" barrel. Do it!

Crap! You're right no TRX Extreme for .308 platforms. But there is a Troy Battlerail MRF nearly 14 inches long.

Yeah, I saw that. For the size and weight, I may stick with the DD lite rail. Thanks.

Is the barrel nut larger on a .308 then on a 5.56?

What bolt carrier group are you using with this? I've started buying parts to do one myself

Yes. And they are proprietary. RRA has its own unique thread pitch; DPMS, LaRue and others use an SR25 pattern; Armalite, Noveske and others use an AR10 pitch. The MA-TEN will accept SR25 or AR10 pattern barrels, but they use a DPMS thread on the barrel nut.

That is going to depend on what barrel I get. I am leaning towards an AR10 pattern barrel.

I saw them. Thing is, I have 5k rounds of 7.62 x 51 laying around and sold the PTR91 I was using to shoot it. I will just stick with the basics.

It kind of stalled. I have everything on it now except for the barrel and bolt. I just couldn't make up my mind. Christmas came, and a couple other gun projects, and it just took a back burner. As soon as I get my state tax return I will finish it up. It will be what you see above, plus a VTAC handguard, 18" Kaiser barrel with an AAC blackout FH, and an Armalite bolt. It should be assembled within a month and I will post pics and a range report.

ETA - went ahead and bought one. With the 5 month backlog at Armalite, I didn't want to take a chance on not being able to finish my build. Just need a barrel assembly and I am good to go.

Got my bolt carrier group. All I need now is the barrel assembly. I decided to go with one of the Kaiser 18" barrels. I will get an Vltor low profile gas block pinned to it, and plan on using an AAC Blackout FH. $350 more bucks - almost at the end of the road. Damn these things are expensive to build.
