I keep a Gen 4 22 with glock light/laser on the night stand and my 870 police magnum under the bed ready to go. When anywhere else in the house I have my gen 4 23 with me in my crossbreed iwb.

S&W 1076, condition 1, handheld light, stock sights on the bedframe.

G21 around the house, condition 1, no light or laser.

Lights/lasers tell the BG where I am. I'll use the Pelican to power up their face before the SHTF.

Then, there's the 12 guages of differing builds, with mixed loads in the tubes.

Haven't gotten into claymores yet.

Feel free to vote in the poll, too.

Thanks.

My Whys:
  • Stock Glock 17 - Offers 17 rounds of 9mm in a very reliable full-size gun I can grip and shoot very well. No modifications of any kind (other than sights - see below).
  • Condition 3 - Can be moved safely from safe to bedside, and back. And, the fact that it's not holstered, that it's my G17, that the trigger is back, the mounted light and the blue mag plate serve as a reminder to me it's in C3.
  • Mag baseplate - Blue. Indicates it's the HD gun (to wife) AND a reminder to me it's in C3. (FYI: All guns are C3 to my wife - i.e. always rack slide first - and the G17 is all she knows anyway). The spare HD mag has a blue baseplate as well.
  • Steel night sights - I loathe Glock plastic sights. Heinie Slant Pro Night Sights - I love these sights and shoot them best. The G17 is also my main range/target/game 9mm.
  • 9mm (147gr Gold Dot) - Offers greatest capacity since it's likely I'll have just the gun. Easiest caliber for my wife to shoot well. I prefer the heaviest weight-by-caliber. I prefer the 147gr recoil and it's sub-sonic (no "crack"). Gold Dots because the are proven and they are bonded.
  • TLR-3 - I'm a rail light believer on a HD handgun. A handheld light is also in the safe by the HD gun and another is in bedside dresser. With a weapon-mounted light I know I will always have a light when I have the gun. And, I'll grab the handheld light, too. The TLR-3 is the best overall light IMO for a home gun (light weight, inexpensive, small, secure, LED and bright).
  • No butt plug - I no longer use these. I want to be able to quickly/easily rip a mag out if needed and the plug blocks the thumb in the rear of the grip.
Tactics and Training
Very nice setup, i run mine similar to yours minus the NS, with a light attached, there is virtually no need for them. Some of my Glocks have TFO's because i like the FO

I've got a 22 rd. Glock mag loaded with 20 180 gr. Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel and a 14 rd. M&P 45 mag loaded with 13 230 gr. Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel. I put them in a Glock 22 or FS M&P 45 naked, w/o one in the pipe on the NS. I always carry with one in the pipe but I can rack the slide or rip the holster off so I don't see a benefit of speed, just an extra rd. which i'm not too worried about as you could gather by the mags I use and the rd. count in them.

Then there is the shotty in the corner. Then there is the three aggressive Bulldogs who will make noise and more. Then there is the monitored alarm system. Then there are the four motion detection lights (one on each main side of the house) that kick 200 watts a piece. We try but there are no guarantees unfortunately. Wish I had some pics, I may try and get some here to share.

I plan for the worst .... home invasion nightmare--multiple targets. G17/G19 here and there until I can get to AR with appropriate ammo for urban warfare. Dogs and alarm system with video surveillance on the property.

My choice is not covered above. I don't think you can carry a factory standard Glock in Condition 1.

On my nightstand I have a Glock 19 Gen 4 with a round in the chamber, full magazine inserted, front Glock night sight, wearing a Surefire X400.

My other vote was because I have a condition 1 G32, no light, stock sights, but a Crimson Trace laser grip.

I leave my CC PF9 in my truck at night. I have G22 chambered with 165 gr Federal Hydra-Shoks and a spare mag in a gun vault. Sometimes I take my little .38 SPL out of the safe and leave it on the nightstand in a holster. I keep a 4Sevens AA2 sitting on the nightstand as well. I LOVE THAT LIGHT!

Sounds like a good setup for you, and sounds like you came to it the right way, by looking at your personal needs and situation and determining what is best for you. C3 is a good choice in this situation, given the wake-up fumble factors, erring on the side of safety. Plus, given the spousal situation it works into her needs well. My only concern would be if you have thoroughly function-tested the gun to make sure that light and round combo works well for you. If so, looks like you have done a good job, IMO.

Well uh, guys I don't have a 'home defense handgun'. I may have HDH(s), as in plural, like Ruger Service Six and Speed Six stashed around, but no one gun since I don't carry the gun at all times around the house.

The OTRDH (on the road defense handgun) would be my carry Glock as it is on me, but at home, there is more than one folks!

And don't forget the long gun!

I have a Glock 17 with night sights that I keep loaded. It is my current home defense handgun. However I also have a 590 that I keep in the closet. I do want to get a light for both.

I somehow think there is a chance that some event in the home would be more likely to have multiple BG's involved than one in the street, so even though I feel fine with a revolver in the street, I feel better with higher capacity in the home. Haven't researched that.

Haven't stashed any guns, but I do carry in the house. (When I moved back to a saner jurisdiction and started carrying again, it was not comfortable, so I carried whenever awake for a while just to get used to it again. After that -- 21 days or so -- it was just no big deal to carry all the time.)

By the bed, generally, full-capacity 9mm in a holster, CT laser, handheld light, and cell phone.
