MK40 or MK9
I have a PM9 and love it. I have shot about 800 rounds of 8 different type/ brand ammo and it has been 100%. I realize this is an everyday carry gun not everyday shoot gun. I have been thinking of getting a MK9 so I can practice more. Same size, trigger pull etc. But then I start thinking if I go with a steel gun why not go with a .40?
1. I have not heard much of the M40. Who here has shot it? Thoughts?
2. Downside: Mags. I have six PM9/MK9 mags already. That is a lot of money in just mags.
3. Upside: same holsters and better hitting bullets.
I am sold on Kahr, and I get a super, super price (more so on the PMs) through work.
Thanks for the relevant input.

No doubt the MK40 is a very nice pistol. Unfortunately I don't have any experience shooting one. I've yet to take it to the range.

I have the PM9 and sold my MK40. It was to snappy for me. I like 40 and have multiple 40s. Just this one had too much recoil for my taste. My MK40 was flawless since out of the box. Fully loaded it does weight more than the PM9 but still comfortable.

I had a PM9 and now own a MK9. All in all I like the MK9 much better. The extra weight of the all steel MK9 is a plus for me along with the holsters and magazines I already had. I have not fired the MK40 but I think there would be some pretty snappy recoil in that size gun. The MK9 handles very well and 200 rds a range trip is no problem at all.

My MK9 toggles back onto my thumb really hard.
If I put 50 rounds through my MK9, it will wear a dime sized blister in the top of my thumb. Two days later, the blister usually turns into a hole. As a result, I usually put a band aid on top of my thumb when I shoot the MK9. Other than that, the little machine has been a flawless tack driver for me.
I guess if I had an MK40, it would behave the same (just jumpier) and maybe put a quarter sized blister on top of my thumb. I'm pretty sure I'd develop a flinch with a .40 S&W in that sized package.

I have MK9, PM9, PM40.
The PM40 is a handful, but manageable. My only serious complaint in the recoil department on the 40 is it bangs the heck out of my trigger finger. I wish Kahr had opened up the trigger guard a little. Other that that I don't consider the recoil on the 40 to be a problem, but I'm used to shooting magnums.
I concur with the post above about 200 rounds through the MK9. I can run 100 rounds though mine as fast as I can reload magazines and I own 10 magazines for it. It's a pleasure to shoot and I've never had a problem with it wearing holes in my hand or anything. It's also an excellent point shooter. It's too heavy for me to prefer it for carry. If I'm going with something that heavy, I'll carry my 10 plus one Taurus Mil Pro PT145.
2nd EDIT With the PT145; for two more ounces of LOADED weight, I get 10 plus one rounds of 45 ACP verses 6 plus one rounds of 9mm in the MK9. And the weight difference is almost all accounted for by the extra 4 rounds of 45 ACP ammo. However I personally don't like the newer versions of the PT145. I don't like the SA/DA trigger. As I understand things, it requires a manual safety to be engaged to safely carry it with one in the pipe. My PT145 is the older double action only type with a second strike capability. It is the ONLY mouse gun that I've EVER owned that has been 100% reliable from new out of the box. That thing has NEVER had a malfunction ever. And I've had it about 3 or 4 years, and shot lots of rounds through it. Maybe I just got lucky, because I hear lots of people bad mouthing the Taurus line. End of 2nd Edit.
The PM9 is my preferred carry gun and I don't shoot it as much as the MK9, but it's also a good pistol in the recoil department. No problem for me.
ETA. I may be wrong, but I think some holsters are not interchangeable between the MK9 and the PM9. Many will work with either pistol. Just depends on their construction and how they fit your pistol.

I have both an MK40 and a PM40. I had a PM9 witch I sold when I got the PM40.
The PM40 is a bit of a handful but still easyto control. The MK40 is even easier to shoot. If you do a search I believe you will find range reports on the guns.
Still, if you plan on keeping the PM9 I would just get the MK9. You will be better equipped as far as mags go and you will not be losing much as far as self defense is concerned.
