Crispy Cruiser
I just watched an episode of COPS where a Spokane patrolman followed a stolen pickup into some tall grass, got stuck and lost his unit to fire from the grass under the unit getting started on fire by his exhaust system.
He had to be a city boy.
Some one else did get the driver of the truck and they also recovered the truck.

I nearly burned down my Mom's 76 Trans Am in the tall grass once. We stored it in the neighbors barn when St Helens blew. I drove it out later and stopped in the grass. The catalytic converter gets real hot I discovered. Yeah Mom had a T A, but so did I at the time. Mine was faster though, because of all the modifications. Would bury the speedo. By doing the math between speedo and tach, I figured I was getting a little over 150 at top end. Yup, those were the days. Got a ticket once (in a different car)(1972) for 110 over the posted speed limit. I'm much more sedate with my driving now.

Several year old episode. Lots of folks fail to realize how hot the exhaust system gets despite being under the car.

We had the same thing happen a couple years ago. We got ours put out before any damage but the Sheriff's Dept. lost two cars.

Well, heck! Must have been a city boy. Us country boys know better than to do that. We go use a higher up rig, like a pickup.
Don't even think of throwing that brick at me.LOL.

I don't drive in any foliage. I work in the ghetto. The only burning grass is the ones we find in the pockets of that guy that borrowed his cousin's pants.

Especially after spirited driving.
Out in the sticks the CVPI was still in constant use, we just had to get creative about how we off-roaded them.
